The 20-year-old midfielder's contract with the Men of Steel expires in May 2021.
Indian Super League outfit FC Goa are set to sign India international and Jamshedpur FC midfielder Amarjit Singh Kiyam, Khel Now understands.
"Former India U-17 captain Amarjit Singh is all set to sign for FC Goa as both, the player and the club have agreed terms. The club intend to bring him in before the January transfer window concludes – on a loan deal or a permanent transfer," a source close to the developments informed.
Amarjit Singh, who led the Blue Colts in the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup had a stellar time with the Indian Arrows. He looked calm and composed with the ball at his feet and his maturity was beyond his years. Therefore, looking at his talent, Jamshedpur FC roped in the youngster and he had a decent outing with the Men of Steel in his debut Indian Super League campaign.
His performances even caught the eye of national team head coach Igor Stimac, who called him to the national camp and then handed him his first cap against Curacao in the King's Cup. He had a noteworthy performance in the second match of the tournament where India prevailed over hosts Thailand.
Amarjit Singh gradually found a place in a midfield which was filled with talented players like Anirudh Thapa, Brandon Fernandes and so on. However, a double-arm fracture meant that he was sidelined for a considerable period of time. He missed most of the FIFA World Cup 2022 Qualifiers action for the Blue Tigers.
Even after his return from injury, he has struggled for regular game-time at Jamshedpur FC this season. Head coach Owen Coyle prefers Mobashir Rahman and Aitor Monroy at the heart of the midfield and Amarjit has fallen down the pecking order.
With the AFC Champions League campaign looming, FC Goa are interested in acquiring the 20-year-old's services. Moreover, the source has also informed that few other clubs in the league are also interested in his signature.
"Amarjit's contract at Jamshedpur will end in May and if the move doesn't come through before the deadline, FC Goa will try to push it over in the next window," the source added.
It will be interesting to see how Juan Ferrando manages to incorporate Amarjit Singh in the middle of the park, where he already has some exceptional midfielders. The FC Goa squad is filled with priceless possessions like Princeton Rebello, Brandon Fernandes, Edu Bedia and others. Now, with Amarjit in the mix, the competition will only get tougher for a starting spot.
