FC Goa set to sign goalkeeper Dheeraj Singh Moirangthem
The 20-year-old custodian is desperate to earn game time in the top tier.
ATK Mohun Bagan goalkeeper Dheeraj Singh Moirangthem is all set to sign with FC Goa, a source close to the developments informed Khel Now can confirm.
"Outbound ATK Mohun Bagan custodian Dheeraj Singh Moirangthem is currently negotiating with FC Goa. Mohammad Nawaz's contract expires at the end of the ongoing season thus, Dheeraj comes as a realistic option for the Gaurs," the source quoted. "Moreover, Nawaz has not signed any extension at the club yet," he added.
The 20-year-old rose to fame after his prolific display for the India U-17 national team that took part in the FIFA U-17 World Cup back in 2017. After proving his trade with the national team, Dheeraj Singh Moirangthem went on to perform well in the I-League for Indian Arrows. Then in 2018, he made his debut in the Indian Super League with Kerala Blasters as he had penned multi-year deal with them. Under the then head coach David James, Singh was a regular in the team sheet as he made 13 outings for the Yellow Army keeping four clean sheets in the process.
Initially, it was East Bengal who showed interest in the Manipuri player. But now it seems the last season's league leaders are the frontrunners to add the custodian to their roster. Currently, FC Goa stand fourth in the league table. Though the Gaurs have scored 13 goals, they have also conceded 11, which might be a cause of concern for Juan Ferrando.
After his promising display for the Blasters, ATK were successful in bringing him to Kolkata. However, since then, Dheeraj Singh Moirangthem has earned only one appearance in the ISL and is starving for game time with veteran keeper Arindam Bhattacharya leading the race under the post for the Kolkata-based side. Thus, if everything falls in place, the move to FC Goa will be a great opportunity for him to prove his trade once again in the country’s top tier. Furthermore, the source has also confirmed that if completed, the transfer deal is expected to be a record-breaking one as FC Goa are looking to bring the player in January.
