The 25-year-old made an announcement on his social media about a move away from the club that has created a controversy.
Hugo Boumous has potentially complicated his move away from FC Goa by making the controversial post on Instagram on Monday evening, in which he formally announced his departure from the club.
A source close to the developments told Khel Now, “One ISL club was in talks with FC Goa over a potential move for the French-Moroccan. It was decided that if the move was to take place, it would involve a very high transfer fee and a prominent one by Indian football standards.”
“When the talks were going on, the clubs were even having a discussion about potentially doing the deal in installments due to the current scenario. FC Goa have remained very adamant that they will not accept anything lesser than his market value right now and that they won’t budge on their valuation of him,” the source added.
However, communication has stalled now that Hugo Boumous has gone on to to overzealously post on social media. “He has complicated the deal by doing so,” the source stated. “FC Goa are now adamant to get the transfer fee up front rather than in installments, which could hinder the interests of both Boumous as well as the interested ISL club.”
The 25-year-old had indicated a few months ago that he might not re-join FC Goa for the upcoming ISL season, despite having his best-ever campaign with the Gaurs. It seems that the impact of Sergio Lobera’s untimely departure from the club has made him to take this decision of moving away after enjoying some great memories in the ISL with them.
Last season, he scored 11 goals and delivered 10 assists, being one of the most prolific players in the entire season. He even won the ISL Player of the Season award and saw his market value soar. While it is understandable for Boumous to want a new challenge, making a premature announcement of a move seems to have landed him in an awkward position, with uncertainty now clouding his future in the ISL.
