Hyderabad FC in advanced talks with Brazilian midfielder Joao Victor
The 31-year-old plied his trade for RCD Mallorca in LaLiga among other stints in his long career.
Indian Super League outfit Hyderabad FC are in advanced talks to sign Brazilian midfielder Joao Victor until the end of the 2020-21 season, Khel Now understands.
"Hyderabad are in advanced stage of talks with Joao Victor, who will sign a deal till the end of the season soon. The Brazilian player was also in the shortlist of Kerala Blasters, but Hyderabad seems most likely to be his next destination," quoted a source close to the developments.
Joao Victor comes with playing experience in multiple countries including Spain, Uzbekistan and Cyprus. The 31-year-old began his career in his native, before joining compatriot Luiz Felipe Scolari at Uzbek club FC Bunyodkor in 2009. In his two seasons with the club, the defensive midfielder registered four goals in over 60 appearances.
Thereafter, he moved to Spain and joined the then LaLiga outfit RCD Mallorca in 2010. While in Spain, the player established himself as a crucial first-team regular in his very first season, appearing over 32 times in the domestic league. Three campaigns later, Mallorca were relegated from the top flight, but Joao Victor continued to be part of the team. Until then, Victor had gathered experience of playing against the best of oppositions, including then Cristiano Ronaldo's Real Madrid and Lionel Messi's FC Barcelona.
After representing the team in the Spanish Segunda Division for another couple of terms, he moved to Cyprus. There, he joined Anorthosis -- one of the most decorated clubs in the country and had a decent five campaigns. Joao Victor was among the key players at the club throughout his time and also registered a total of 19 goals in as many as 137 appearances.
Joao Victor has been a free agent after going through a couple of short stints in Qatar and Greece and would be a welcome addition at Hyderabad FC. The relatively newfound ISL outfit recently formed a multi-year partnership with Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund. Moreover, they also look forward to their second season in the league under new head coach Albert Roca, thus proving their eagerness to compete against the best.
