Jamshedpur FC in advanced talks with Alex Lima
The Brazilian has previously plied his trade in Switzerland, the United States, South Korea and Vietnam.
After an impressive signing in ISL 2019-20 Golden Boot winner Nerijus Valskis, Jamshedpur FC are now in advanced talks with Brazilian midfielder Alex Monteiro de Lima, Khel Now has learnt. Popularly known as Alex, the youth product of Gremio Mauaense has previously plied his trade in Switzerland, the US, South Korea, and Vietnam.
According to sources, the midfielder will be signing a one season contract with the Men of Steel.
The Brazilian left his country in the burgeoning stages of his career to sign for Swiss outfit FC Wohlen, where he began his professional career. After a loan spell with Gossau, he returned back to Wohlen, producing promising performances that made him a mainstay in the side. Later, Alex moved to the MLS, signing for the Chicago Fire, spending three years at the club before joining Houston Dynamo.
After his time in MLS came to an end, Alex played for the likes of Suwon FC and FC Anyang in South Korea before a brief stint in Vietnam with Ho Chi Minh City FC and is a free-agent currently. The 31-year-old can play in a variety of positions in midfield and has shown an eye for goal throughout his career. Alex scored 18 goals and notched eight assists in 63 appearances in the second division of South Korean football.
Even during his time in the US, Alex registered 12 goals as well as assists across 153 games. Furthermore, he has a wonderful left foot, good close control, and possesses excellent dribbling skills. His ability to bypass onrushing opponents with ease will serve Jamshedpur FC well as he could massively help in progressing the ball quickly into threatening areas.
Meanwhile, Jamshedpur FC had a disappointing 2019-20 campaign, having finished eighth on the table with 18 points under their belt. However, after getting Owen Coyle on board, the Men of Steel will be targeting a spot in the playoff positions this season. Moreover, they have already made some impressive acquisitions this summer.
Apart from Valskis, Jamshedpur FC have strengthened their squad with the signings of Jackichand Singh and former Motherwell FC captain Peter Hartley. If the Men of Steel manage to bring Alex in, it will be further proof of their determination to quickly climb the rankings in the upcoming edition of the Indian Super League.
