NorthEast United FC have bolstered their squad by signing Mashoor Shereef for the upcoming season. The versatile player has featured for Chennai City FC 17 times last season across the I-League, AFC Champions League Qualifiers and the AFC Cup.
The 27-year-old started out as a forward for Chennai City, but was turned into a makeshift centre-back when one of their defenders was not available for the game. He was also played in the middle of the park by Akbar Nawas in a few games and contributed well to the team. The Kerala-born player scored two goals in 15 games in the I-League, both of which came against NEROCA FC.
NorthEast United had a disappointing season last time around, as their head coach Robert Jarni was sacked before the end of the campaign, with Khalid Jamil assuming the role of interim head coach for the remainder of the term. This season, the Guwahati-based side have snapped up experienced Spanish tactician Gerard Nus and would be hoping for a change in fortunes.
The club had a massive overhaul this season and have signed six new foreigners including Khassa Camara, Benjamin Lambot, Dylan Fox, Kwesi Appiah and Idrissa Sylla. They have also brought in a number of exciting domestic players including Rochharzela, Ashutosh Mehta among others.
