The forward was one of the standout performers in the Indian Super League in the previous season.
ISL giants ATK Mohun Bagan have signed forward Liston Colaco ahead of the upcoming season, the club announced on Saturday. One of the standout performers from last season, the Mariners secured the forward's services by paying a record transfer fee to his former employers Hyderabad FC.
Following a terrific season for Hyderabad FC, the winger also made his national team debut against United Arab Emirates in an international friendly on March 25.
What makes him tick?
Colaco was part of an incredible Hyderabad FC side which narrowly missed out on the playoffs in the 2020-21 season. However, the young forward earned a lot of praise from all across the Indian football landscape for his electric performances. The Nizams gave him an opportunity to express his talent under Manolo Marquez, who put a lot of faith in the youngster.
The 22-year-old has an abundance of pace and an exceptional eye for a cross inside the box. He can stretch the opposition with his weaving runs down the channels and cause plenty of problems. His output will provide a new aspect to ATKMB's forward line. A partnership with reputed players like Manvir Singh and Roy Krishna will be invaluable to the Mariners.
Liston Colaco is set to join the Mariners from June 1, 2021. The signing is a clear statement from the ATKMB management, who will mount a stronger challenge to topple reigning champions Mumbai City. It will be interesting to see how he fares in the upcoming campaign. Importantly, the acquisition is just the latest in a slew of new additions by the Kolkata giants. The team will making their bow in the group stage of the AFC Cup in May.
