ATKMB's Hugo Boumous gets featured in FUT 22 Team of the Week 15

The midfielder has impressed for the Mariners in the first half of the season.

ATK Mohun Bagan’s record signing Hugo Boumous is the latest addition to the Team of the Week for EA Sports’ FIFA 22. The multiplayer version of the game, FIFA Ultimate Team (FUT), rolled out its batch of nominees for Team of the Week (TOTW) 15.

Only the most talented players make it to this stage and the fact that Boumous is the sole representative of the ISL in this batch speaks volumes. The French midfielder assisted Roy Krishna’s thunderous volley inside the box from a corner, against FC Goa in midweek. He also put in a commendable performance with his silky dribbling and defence-splitting passes as ATKMB beat Goa 2-1.

Hugo Boumous raised a lot of eyebrows when he joined ATKMB from champions Mumbai City this season, more so since he was pivotal to all three of their wins against the Mariners last season, including the final. ATKMB broke the bank to sign Boumous, spending over ₹2 Crores to make him one of the most expensive signings of all time in the ISL.

He seems to have repaid them in earnest, as he started the campaign against Kerala Blasters, with two goals. So far he has amassed a total of five goals and two assists this ISL season.

The Mariners have not played the most consistent brand of football that they are otherwise known for. However, Boumous has helped them keep the wind in their sails with his jaw-dropping performances. Averaging a total of 1.5 shots per game and a 60% dribble success rate, he has maintained his menacing threat against opponents. More surprisingly, these turnovers are part of a counter-attacking and defensive style of football that his team employs.

EA Sports have duly recognized his tremendous form and awarded him a spot in their weekly roster for best players around the world during Week 15.
