This was the Red and Gold's fifth draw of the campaign.
Former India captain Renedy Singh had his first test as interim head coach of SC East Bengal. The team he put out was well-structured and disciplined till the end. A Sourav Das own-goal cancelled out a clinical header by Semboi Haokip, but there were a lot of positives to take from the draw against Bengaluru FC.
The young coach reflected on the performance in the post-match press conference:
Sticking to the strategy
In the pre-match press conference, Renedy Singh had touched upon the structure he had developed in training and the strategy he devised. “Yes, if you see the way the players fought. We were talking about structure before the match and they did hold their shape till the end of the game.
"Apart from one clear-cut chance, the opposition did not have many opportunities. We had three open-play chances, and we scored once. With many foreigners out, we can’t play the expensive game, but I am really proud of the players who fought on the field,” the interim coach commented on tonight’s result.

Message to the players before the game
Singh had almost a week’s time to train and get his philosophy across to the squad. “I got to work with them for six days. We were concentrating on the structure and the shape. That’s all I was telling them and the way we kept our shape while counter-attacking, it was nice to see,” revealed Renedy Singh.

On Adil Khan’s performance
Indian international Adil Khan was handed his first start of the campaign and he did well to make the most of the opportunity. He was the best player for the Red and Gold and played a huge role in stabilizing the defence. “I was really worried for him, as he was coming back after a long time due to injury. We know what Adil is capable of, but he wasn't fit in the last few months. He proved me wrong and he played well,” the coach lauded.
Assessing first game as interim coach
The 42-year old was also asked if he was happy with his own performance as SC East Bengal's interim coach. “No, I still want to play better. With the situation we are in, it is difficult. I have been given the charge for three matches. Let’s see if in the next two games I can do well and after that, I’ll hand over to the new coach,” Singh concluded.
