The 34-year-old has scored 25 goals so far in his ISL career.
After spending nearly one and a half seasons at Jamshedpur FC, Lithuanian striker and former Indian Super League (ISL) ‘Golden Boot’ winner Nerijus Valskis has returned to Chennaiyin FC.
The Men of Steel confirmed on Saturday, January 1, that they have parted ways with the 34-year-old by mutual consent. “We wish him best of luck in his future endeavours,” their official statement added.
“We are delighted to announce that an agreement with Nerijus Valskis on a free transfer has been completed. The Lithuanian forward joins the club for the remainder of the season,” Chennaiyin FC’s official statement read.
“I am very excited and very happy to be back home and wear the blue shirt again,” the forward was quoted as saying after completing the move to his former club. It is interesting to note that in his debut season in Indian football (ISL 2019-20), Valskis won the golden boot, scoring 15 goals and providing six assists in 20 games to take Chennaiyin FC to the final.
CFC co-owner Vita Dani also expressed happiness in completing his signing. “Although the loss of Rafael was a hard one to take, we are extremely delighted to have Valskis join our ranks once again. We all know as Chennayin FC fans, of what he is capable of in our kit. I think his signing will empower us for the remainder of the season,” she said.
After moving to Jamshedpur FC ahead of the 2020-21 season, Nerijus Valskis netted 10 goals in a season and a half for them. His partnership with Greg Stewart in their attack has been an important part of JFC’s success so far in their ongoing league campaign.
