FC Goa midfielder Amarjit Singh Kiyam is set to join East Bengal on a loan deal for the upcoming Indian Super League season, Khel Now understands. The 20-year-old joined the Gaurs from Jamshedpur FC in January 2021 but has struggled for game time.

"Former India U-17 captain Amarjit Singh Kiyam will join East Bengal on a season-long loan deal from FC Goa," a source close to the development informed Khel Now.

He played only twice for FC Goa after joining the club for the second half of the ISL campaign. Amarjit was also part of the squad for the AFC Champions League and played four of the six group stage games. With FC Goa's midfield stacked with some talented players for the upcoming ISL season, a move away from the club looks to be the best option for the 20-year-old.

Amarjit Singh Kiyam's career

After impressing for the Indian Arrows in the I-League, Amarjit Singh Kiyam was picked up by ISL outfit Jamshedpur FC. He had also captained the Indian U-17 team in the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup in India. Singh enjoyed a stellar campaign in the middle of the park despite India's disappointing performance. A holding midfielder by trade, Amarjit then followed it with some exceptional performances for the Arrows in the I-League, before making his ISL debut for Jamshedpur in the 2019-20 season.

Singh played the final eight league stage games for the Men of Steel that season and once again caught everyone's attention with his composure on the ball and maturity. A decent campaign with the Men of Steel made way for his subsequent international debut in a friendly against Curacao in the Kings Cup. He also played in India's win over Thailand and gradually made his place in India's midfield.

But a double arm fracture sidelined him for a longer period with the 20-year-old missing the FIFA World Cup qualifiers. He recovered in time for the ISL season but fell down the pecking order under Owen Coyle. He only managed to appear for seven games, most of which were from the bench in the 2020-21 season for Jamshedpur.

With no guarantee of regular game-time, Amarjit Singh Kiyam terminated his contract with the Men of Steel and joined FC Goa. But once again found himself competing against the likes of Alexander Romario Jesuraj, Princeton Rebello and Edu Bedia. This season the Gaurs have added more depth to their midfield, leaving the youngster to look elsewhere for guaranteed playing time.

East Bengal's ISL preparation

East Bengal have only recently started building their squad for the upcoming season. The Kolkata-based club finished ninth in the standings in their debut campaign. Like last season, the club once again delayed their preparation after differences with investors Shree Cement over the final agreement. Eventually, both parties agreed after the intervention of Chief Minister of West Bengal, Smt. Mamata Banerjee.

The Red & Gold Brigade have retained a number of players, who were with the club season. They are also close to agreeing deals with a number of players from other ISL teams.
