FC Goa midfielder Brandon Fernandes signs new contract until 2024
The creative ace had a difficult previous season riddled with injuries.
FC Goa midfielder Brandon Fernandes has signed an extension with the club. The new deal will keep the attacking midfielder with the Gaurs until June 2024.
The news comes as a huge positive ahead of the crucial and historical AFC Champions League campaign for the outfit. Brandon Fernandes will be pumped up to help the team get a positive result after working back to full fitness.
Brandon Fernandes joined FC Goa back in 2017 in the ISL Draft and has since become one of their most influential players. The highest assist-making Indian player (18 assists) in the ISL is also the backbone of the team's midfield.
The 26-year-old has shown immense capability in working with the best of foreign talents at FC Goa. Fernandes has shown great versatility, performing well in several roles in midfield. He can play in a deeper role, or play on the wings. But, he is most effective when playing just behind the forward as a No.10.
What he said?
“Playing for FC Goa has always been special ever since I arrived here four years back. I feel at home here. Together, we have been able to stitch together a lot of successful chapters over the past few years. I am looking forward to continuing in the same vein in the years to come.” Brandon expressed after his extension.
Furthermore, Brandon has created his own legacy with FC Goa. He helped them win the Super Cup in 2019 by scoring the winning goal. He further expressed his delight on signing a new deal, saying, “I am convinced that the best days – both for me and the Club lie ahead of us and I intend to start working towards that. Being a Goan, it gives me great pleasure to continue to wear this shirt and represent my people for many years to come.”
Ravi Pushkar, Director of Football at FC Goa, also expressed his elation upon the confirmation of the news. He was quoted, saying, “We’re delighted that Brandon has agreed to commit his long-term future to the club. He has grown leaps and bounds since he first arrived here in 2017 to turn into one of the most consistent creative forces in the country.”
“He’s been a very important part of our success over the past 4 years and has become ingrained into the fabric of the club. We are confident that his best years are yet to come and we’re pleased that he’s chosen to spend those in Goa.” he concluded.
