The tactician also reflected on his team's upcoming games.
ATK Mohun Bagan stormed back into the top four of the Indian Super League (ISL) by defeating league leaders Hyderabad FC 2-1 on Tuesday. Liston Colaco scored against his former side and Manvir Singh added the other for the Mariners, while Joel Chianese was only able to pull one back for the Nizams. Here's what head coach Juan Ferrando had to say following his team's win:
Concern over injuries
Despite the win, Juan Ferrando was worried about his side’s injury troubles, after seeing Hugo Boumous and Carl McHugh get injured in the first half. He said after the game, “Not just them, but also (David) Williams and Amrinder (Singh). We had 4-5 players struggling with injuries on the pitch. It's difficult because you need to change plans in 35 minutes!
“This is the result of the quarantines, training without quarantines and a lot of factors. But, I think the situation of ATK Mohun Bagan and the rest of the clubs is the same,” he added.
Thoughts on game
Giving his thoughts on the game itself, Juan Ferrando explained, “Of course, I’m not happy because in normal build-up we can use our No. 6 and No. 8. But, after the injuries, we needed to change our plans.
"In the end, we had to use Subhasish (Bose) and Prabir (Das) in the build-up. We need to improve in our attacking details. Also, I’m not happy about our defensive transitions. We have a lot of problems in this case.”
Opportunity to top league?
ATK Mohun Bagan are still unbeaten under Ferrando and are only three points behind league leaders Hyderabad, with two games in hand. When asked about whether he’s confident in his team’s ability to win the league, the Spaniard said, “Now, we need to prepare against NorthEast.
"That’s our focus and that is what is most important. I hope all the staff, our players and supporters understand that. Because it’s a difficult moment for everyone, everybody knows about the bio-bubbles. It’s the same for everyone. Of course, we’ll try to do our best for Saturday.”
Will upcoming games be easy?
Juan Ferrando was bemused when asked about whether the games against NorthEast United and FC Goa will be "easy ones." He said, “No, the one against NorthEast is 100% not an easy game. In the last game against NorthEast, we played well without pressure. They have good players like Marcelinho, Hernan Santana.
“In the case of FC Goa, you know they have a very good squad. It’s not so easy. I think it’s necessary not to think about the positions in the table because to be honest, it’s not really recent positions,” he finished off.
