The tactician spoke after his team came away with their second defeat of the season.
Hyderabad FC missed the chance to regain the top spot in the Indian Super League 2021-22 after a 0-1 defeat to Kerala Blasters. Manolo Marquez and his men were not able to score against the Yellow Army who are now the league leaders. Alvaro Vazquez’s strike was the difference-maker between the two teams, that came into the fixture on the back of long unbeaten runs.
The head coach spoke to the media after the disappointing result. He talked about leaving substitutions late, having to contend without Bartholomew Ogbeche in the next fixture and more.
Here is what Manolo Marquez talked about during the post-match conference after the defeat to Kerala Blasters:
Deserved more
Speaking on the result, the Spaniard believed his team did not deserve to lose. In this context, he was quoted as saying, “Obviously not. I think we played a lot better than other days. We controlled the game in the first minutes of both the first and the second half. But, they had very good players, especially the offensive ones and they could score at any moment, even if you are attacking more than them.”
“We scored, it was tough to know from my position if it was offside or not. But, the difference was that the substitutions and changes of the system were early. Today, I was hoping we could equalize earlier and the substitutions were late,” he further spoke while talking about why his team failed to score the equalizer against KBFC.
Competition is still very open
Marquez is of the belief that while KBFC are on top of the league table, the competition is still wide open. He said in this regard, “All the six/seven/eight teams are candidates. It’s a very equal game.
"Sometimes, we forget who is Kerala Blasters and Hyderabad FC. It (the latter) is a new team, we are trying to grow in football. KBFC has fantastic fans, it’s a team with the most fans in India. I am not happy because we lost the game, but the game was very good in terms of football.”
Javier Siverio to start
Bartholomew Ogbeche will miss the next match after collecting four yellow cards. Speaking on the prospect of seeing Javier Siverio start in the game in his absence, Marquez said, “Yes, Javier Siverio will play. This is the rule. If you have four yellow cards you cannot play. Javi has a lot of possibilities to play as a No. 9 against Chennayin FC.”
