Costa Nhamoinesu joins Polish second-tier club TS Podbeskidzie

Former Kerala Blasters centre-back Costa Nhamoinesu has left the Indian Super League to join Polish club TS Podbeskidzie. The 35-year-old spent just one season in the ISL and played 16 times for the Blasters. He joins TS Podbeskidzie Bielsko-Biala, who compete in the I-Liga, the second tier of Polish football. Costa has signed a one-year deal with the club.

This defender has in the past represented another Polish club Zaglebie Lubin, who play in the Ekstraklasa, the first tier of Polish football. He had played three seasons with them before making a move to Sparta League. He spent seven seasons with the Czech Republic club and notched up 146 appearances. In 2020 he left the club and arrived in India.

Costa Nhamoinesu in the ISL

Costa Nhamoinesu joined ISL club Kerala Blasters last season on a one-year deal and represented them 16 times. In the process. He had become the first Zimbabwean footballer to represent the club.

During his stint in the ISL, Nhamoinesu scored two goals. He also captained the ISL club. Nhamoinesu's departure from Kerala Blasters was announced last month.

In 16 games, Nhamoinesu clocked 1409 minutes and made 77 clearances, while also putting in 19 blocks. Costa had a passing accuracy of 80.84% and averaged almost 38 passes per game. He also attempted 26 tackles and made 20 interceptions.

His career so far

After stints with Zimbabwean clubs Amazulu and Masvingo United, Costa Nhamoinesu moved to Poland in 2007 and joined KS Wisla. But after just one season and no appearances, he went out on loan to Zaglebie Lubin before eventually signing for them permanently.

Costa helped the club gain promotion to the first tier of Polish football and made a total of 120 appearances for them in five seasons.

In 2013, he signed for Czech side Sparta Prague and went to play for them for seven seasons during which he mastered 208 appearances across all competitions and also scored 16 goals. Costa won the Czech First League with Sparta in his debut season at the club. He also lifted the Czech Cup and Czech Supercup during his spell there.
