Kerala Blasters sign Argentina striker Jorge Pereyra Diaz

The 31-year-old becomes the third overseas signing for the Kochi outfit.
Kerala Blasters have completed the signing of striker Jorge Pereyra Diaz for the upcoming Indian Super League season, Khel Now can confirm. The 31-year-old arrives in India with prior experience of playing in the top leagues of five different countries, including Argentina and Mexico.
"Jorge Diaz has signed for Kerala Blasters after securing a release from his previous club," a source close to the developments informed Khel Now. "The Argentine has penned a one-year deal with the club," the source added. Diaz was contracted to Club Atletico Platense till December 2021. But, the player secured a release from the club to sign for Kerala Blasters.

Player profile
Diaz started his career with Argentina club Ferro Carril Oeste, who competes in the Primera B Nacional, second tier of the Argentine league system. After making his senior debut in 2008, Diaz played four seasons at Ferro before moving to Club Atletico Lanus. A one-year spell at the club gave him the first taste of top flight football. Jorge Diaz won the Copa Sudamericana with Lanus in his first spell at the club.
He next shifted base to Malaysia and signed for top division club Johor Darul Ta'zim. He spent four seasons at the club in between loan spells to Independiente (2015) and Mexican club Leon (2017). Diaz was hugely successful for Johor and scored over 50 goals, including 30 in a single season in 2016.

The 31-year-old won two Malayasia Super League titles and enjoyed a trophy-laden spell at Johor. He returned to Lanus in 2018 and has since played for top Bolivian club Bolivar. He also spent a season at Chilean side San Marcos before returning to Argentina and joining Platense.
Diaz joined Club Atletico Platense in February earlier this year and had a contract with them until December 2021. But, the 31-year-old secured a release from them to sign for Kerala Blasters.

Kerala Blasters' preseason preparations
Jorge Diaz will be KBFC's third foreign signing after Adrian Luna and Enes Sipovic. Luna joins the club after two seasons with Australia A-League outfit Melbourne City, while Sipovic played for Chennaiyin FC last season. The ISL outfit have also made some excellent domestic signings in Harmanjot Khabra, Sanjeev Stalin, Vincy Barretto and Ruivah Hormipam.
Kerala Blasters started their pre-season camp in Kochi on July 30. The club had announced an initial squad of 29 players, who will take part in the camp.
