Once a fan-favourite, the midfield maestro has voiced his support for his former club.

Amongst all the love and support pouring in from the fans, players of yesteryear are doing the same ahead of Saturday's Kolkata Derby. One such ex-player is Syrian midfielder Mahmoud Al-Amnah. He posted a heartfelt video on his Facebook page, giving his best to the team ahead of the derby.

The playmaker joined East Bengal back in 2017, after winning the I-League with Aizawl FC. When his former coach, Khalid Jamil became East Bengal’s coach, he followed suit. The duo ensured a Calcutta Football League title for the club in that campaign.

Back in 2015, the player joined Panaji-based side, Sporting Clube de Goa. The team mostly play in the Goa Premier League, but have played in the I-League as well. Then, after some good times with East Bengal, he decided to part ways with the club towards the end of 2018.

All the best for Derby game Joy eastbengal ❤️💛

Just after leaving the Kolkata side, Mahmoud Al-Amnah had some free time on his hands. He pursued the D License coaching course in the city itself and received his certificate as well. Last year, Al-Amnah spoke of his decision to hang up his boots and go into coaching. The player was involved in a lot of memorable moments for East Bengal fans. Now, he hopes the current crop of players are able to do the same for the supporters.

This flurry of wishes come ahead of the season’s first Kolkata Serby. SC East Bengal would be giving their fans a gift by winning against their arch-rivals. Moreover, the three points will be crucial for them and their season. Beating the heavyweights in ATKMB would mean a lot to the hastily-made squad. It’ll be interesting to see how new head coach Manolo Diaz fares against the experienced Antonio Habas.
