The head coach wants to move on quickly from a forgettable day at the office.
NorthEast United were on the receiving end of yet another humiliation by Hyderabad FC in the Indian Super League. The Nizams ran riot and put five past Khalid Jamil and his men at the PJN Stadium. Bartholomew Ogbeche surpassed Sunil Chhetri and Ferran Corominas to become the all-time leading goalscorer in the ISL, with a brace. Akash Mishra, Nikhil Poojary and Edu Garcia scored a goal each to wrap up a 0-5 hammering of the Highlanders.
NorthEast looked out of sync and displayed a below-par performance against the league leaders. This was the third time in three seasons that Hyderabad have scored five past the team from Guwahati.
After NorthEast’s embarrassing 0-5 defeat, a frustrated and disappointed Khalid Jamil addressed the media.
Thoughts on game
NorthEast United’s defeat against Hyderabad FC was the biggest loss in the history of the club. Sharing his thoughts on the game, Khalid Jamil termed it as the toughest game of the season so far.
“It was the toughest game and I’m very disappointed. But, it happens and we have to fight and comeback again,” he asserted.
Thought on Hyderabad FC
The Nizams have taken the league by storm and find themselves at the summit. The head coach praised his opponents and said that they are the best team in the league. Khalid said, “You can say that they’re the best. They have quality players and that’s the difference."
Thoughts on new signings
Marcelinho and Marco Sahanek played their third game for the Highlanders and did show their creativity in bits and pieces. Khalid shared his views on them and said, “Marcelinho and Marco Sahanek play as an attacking midfielder, but we play them as strikers due to the injury to (Deshorn) Brown and Mapuia.”
Update on Deshorn Brown
The Highlanders’ top scorer Deshorn Brown missed his fourth game in a row following an injury against FC Goa. The head coach shared an update on his star striker and said, “We have to look. Maybe he will come in the next game. We all are waiting for him.”
Message to team
It’s been a season to forget for NorthEast United, with almost everything going against them. Khalid was asked about what would be his message to the boys in order to motivate them.
“Just to forget and not to think about this. The players worked very hard, but we have to work more hard to get better results,” Khalid concluded.
