NorthEast United sign former Martinique international Mathias Coureur

Indian Super League (ISL) side NorthEast United FC have announced the signing of Martinique forward Mathias Coureur ahead of the 2021-22 season. The 33-year-old striker joins the Highlanders on a one-year deal.
Before joining the Highlanders, Mathias signed for Turkish club Samsunspor in January 2021. He played 19 matches and scored four goals for the Turkish side. On the international front, Mathias has earned seven caps and scored two goals for Martinique.
Club career
Mathias began his professional career in 2007 with French side Beauvais where he racked up four goals in 21 matches. In the following season, Nantes B signed him him on a two-year deal where he registered one goal in 16 matches. He also was involved in a loan move to Gueugnon, where he scored three goals in nine matches.

In 2010, he moved to Spain and signed for Orihuela CF. In his first season with the Spanish outfit, Mathias netted three goals in 19 matches before signing for Atletico Baleares in 2011. He found the back of the net on six occasions in 46 outings for the club. Coureur also won his first major title at Baleares which was the 2011–12 Segunda Division B Group III title.
After spending two years in Spain, Coureur returned to his native country and joined Golden Lion FC. Mathias recorded eight goals in 18 matches during his time with the outfit. After an impressive stint with Golden Lion, he returned to Spain to sign for Huracan Moncada in July 2013. He played 21 matches for them, scoring one goal.
Later, Mathias Coureur signed for Bulgarian top-division side Cherno More Varna on a two-year deal in 2014. In 2015, Mathias registered his name in the club's history as he scored a 119th-minute winner against Levski Sofia in the final of the 2015 Bulgarian Cup. His late winner resulted in Cherno More’s first-ever Bulgarian Cup trophy. He also went on to win the 2015 Bulgarian Supercup. The 33-year-old was also the club’s highest goalscorer in the 2014-15 season with nine goals to his name.
The forward also had a short stint with Georgian giants Dinamo Tbilisi before signing for Bulgarian side Lokomotiv Gorna. In 2017, he penned down a deal with Kazakhstani club Kaysar and scored 13 goals in 59 appearances for them.
The former Martinique international also featured for South Korean side Seongnam FC in 2019 and scored two goals in 21 matches. Mathias re-signed for his former club Cherno More Varna for the 2020-21 season and scored 15 goals in as many games for them.

NorthEast United’s preparations
The ISL outfit have roped in a number of domestic talents such as Jestin George, Mohammed Irshad, Tondonba Singh, Joe Zoherliana, Sehnaj Singh, Emanuel Lalchhanchhuaha, Laldanmawia Ralte and William Lalnunfela. The club has also retained the services of Khassa Camara, Deshorn Brown, Federico Gallego alongside the addition of Hernan Santana in the overseas department.
