(Courtesy : ISL Media)
FC Goa locked horns with Odisha FC at the Athletic Stadium in Bambolim tonight. The match ended in 1-1 draw. The opening goal was scored by Jonathas de Jesus from a penalty. The penalty was earned by none other than Xavi Hernandez, when Alberto Noguera committed a foul on him inside the box. In the dying moments of the match, Alexander Romario Jesuraj scored the equalizer from Airam’s cross from the left flank.
On that note, let's take a look at the player ratings for tonight's encounter.
FC Goa (by Sattyik Sarkar)
Naveen Kumar – 5.5
Made two howlers tonight; one in the first and second half each. The second howler could have led to a goal. Conceded the goal from a penalty. He made four saves, out of which three were from inside the box.
Seriton Fernandes – 6.5
A good performance from the FC Goa right-back against Odisha FC. Won all the aerial and ground duels he participated in. He was successful in delivering three key passes. Seriton was successful in his solitary dribbling attempt.
Ivan Gonzalez – 6.0
Not a good day for him. Ivan made a few misplaced passes, which could have led to something dangerous. He made three clearances and an interception.
Meanwhile, he was also dribbled past on three occasions. Committed three tackles tonight. Won four out of the nine ground duels. He also gave away two fouls.
Anwar Ali – 6.5
An average performance from Anwar tonight for FC Goa against Odisha. He successfully blocked three shots from Odisha FC. Also, made a goal-line clearance, though that can be considered as a controversial event, as it seemed like the ball touched his hand.
He committed two tackles and made one interception. Won just three of the seven ground duels and one of the three aerial duels. He gave away three fouls and successfully delivered three long passes.
Aibanbha Dohling – 6.0
It wasn’t his day at the office for FC Goa against Odisha. Aiban was subbed in the second half. He went on to make just one interception and won just a single ground duel out of a total of six.
None of his crosses or long balls were successful in reaching their targets. However, in the second half, his volley from a set-piece ended up on the wrong side (above) of the net.
Makan Winkle Chothe – 6.0
Chothe wasn’t at his best this evening. None of his crosses reached their target. However, he registered a shot on target and one of his shots was also blocked by the opposition. He was fouled twice.
Edu Bedia – 7.0
Edu Bedia enjoyed a passing accuracy of 90% tonight for FC Goa and Odisha. He also went on to deliver two key passes. Six of his eight long balls were accurate.
Bedia registered two shots on target and one of his shots was blocked by the opposition. Won 50% of the ground duels and 25% of the aerial ones. He also committed three tackles and was dribbled past twice.
Alberto Noguera – 6.5
Noguera delivered five key passes this evening for FC Goa against Odisha FC. He was successful in all three of the dribbling attempts. Unluckily, he gave away a penalty in the second half.
He was fouled four times and surprisingly gave away six. Noguera won all three aerial duels and seven of the 15 ground ones.
Princeton Rebello – 7.0
Though he was substituted in the second half, his contribution was immense in the game. Rebello enjoyed a passing accuracy of 85% and was successful in delivering all three long balls.
He won seven of the eight ground duels. Defensively, he committed three tackles, made three interceptions and a clearance.
Brandon Fernandes – 6.5
Not at his best. He was better in the last match for sure. He had to be substituted in the second half. In the first, his through ball could have resulted in a goal for Alberto Noguera, but the latter missed the chance.
Apart from this, he also delivered two more key passes. Most of his crosses and long balls were inaccurate. Won three out of five ground duels and the solitary aerial duel. He lost possession of the ball 18 times tonight.
Airam Cabrera – 6.5
Provided the assist for Alexander Romario Jesuraj’s goal. Took three shots, out of which two were off target and the other was blocked by the opposition. Defensively, blocked a shot.
Substitutes
Saviour Gama – 5.5
Defensively, he had no contribution for FC Goa against Odisha FC. Won one of the two ground duels. Was fouled once tonight. Tried dribbling past the opponent once, but failed.
Devendra Murgaonkar – 5.5
During his stay, registered a shot which went off target. He was fouled once this evening. Devendra won 75% of the aerial duels and the solitary ground duel.
Leander D’Cunha – 6.0
Leander came on late. He won the solitary ground duel and also delivered an accurate cross. The right-back also delivered a key pass tonight. Additionally, he was successful in the solitary dribbling attempt. His solitary cross successfully reached the target.
Muhammed Nemil – 5.5
Won the solitary ground duel. Nemil was fouled once during his stay. Also, his solitary shot went off target.
Alexander Romario Jesuraj – 7.0
He gets seven points for scoring the late equalizer tonight and giving FC Goa relief.
Odisha FC (by Shivam Tiwari)
Arshdeep Singh - 7.0
Arshdeep could have done nothing about the late equalizer that FC Goa scored against Odisha FC. The Indian goalkeeper was otherwise very active, as he showed great movement and strength throughout the game to collect crosses and long balls. He made five saves in the game.
Lalhrezuala Sailung - 5.0
It wasn't Sailung's day, as the 20-year-old Mizoram-born right-back failed to contribute much for his side in either of the offensive or defensive departments for FC Goa against Odisha FC.
Head coach Kino Sanchez subbed him off at the beginning of the second half, as he finished with just seven passes in the first 45 minutes.
Victor Mongil - 6.0
Victor wasn't as precise with his passing as the coach would have wanted. However, the Spanish defender was on point with his defensive duties, as he kept the likes of Noguera and Airam away from the Juggernauts' goal.
However, he did allow Jesuraj a lot of space between him and Sahil for Goa's equalizer. He finished the game with three clearances.
Gaurav Bora - 7.0
Gaurav had a much-improved outing for Odisha FC against FC Goa. Against a team that pressed very high, the Indian youngster managed to finish with 88% passing accuracy. He also had five clearances in the game. A good way to bounce back after a tough game against Hyderabad FC.
Sahil Panwar - 6.5
Sahil's physicality was again the key for Odisha FC against Makan Chothe of FC Goa. His wrestling out Makan Chothe, thereby preventing an entry into the Odisha's box during a counter-attack, was one of the many moments that showed how big a difference-maker his physical game is for the Juggernauts.
Thoiba Singh - 7.5
Thoiba Singh was defensively solid. The Manipuri midfielder won the ball in the attacking third before passing it to Liridon. However, Liridon's attempted assist was poor. Thoiba then blocked FC Goa and Princeton Rebello's best attempt on goal in the first half.
Isaac Vanmalsawma - 7.0
Isaac dominated Makan Chothe and gave away a corner-kick, instead of allowing Chothe to get in a 1v1 situation in the first half.
Later, the Mizoram-born midfielder played an inch-perfect long ball for Aridai that led to Odisha's best attack of the first half. He created two chances and had a 78% passing accuracy.
Liridon Krasniqi - 6.5
Krasniqi continued from where he left in the previous game. The attacking midfielder contributed in both the offensive and the defensive game, as he finished with a chance created and a clearance. He would have scored the first goal of the game, had he done well after chesting Aridai's cross right in front of the keeper.
Jerry Mawihmingthanga - 7.5
Jerry didn't score against Goa. However, he was as good as he was in the previous game, as the Indian winger chipped the ball over the FC Goa keeper, only to be denied by the crossbar.
He was, however, disappointing with his final balls, like he was in the 11th minute, when he dribbled past the Goan defender only to put in a disappointing cross. He had two crosses and one shot.
Aridai Cabrera - 7.5
Like his Indian teammate Jerry, Aridai was disappointing with his final balls. He dribbled past a couple of Goan defenders in the second half, only to see his attempt off the target. He finished with three chances created and a shot on target.
Javier Hernandez - 7.0
Isolated throughout the first half by the ball-dominant FC Goa, Javi Hernandez was brought back to life by the introduction of Jonathas in the game.
He won the penalty after seeing his free-kick blocked by the Goan wall. He created a chance and put in a cross into Goa's box.
Substitutions
Jonathas de Jesus - 8.5
Jonathas, as he did against Hyderabad FC, took the mantle of getting the Juggernauts the maximum points in the game. He scored the penalty won by Javier Hernandez. He had two shots on target and created a chance.
Paul Ramfangzauva - 6.5
Paul received the ball through a Jonathas cross in the 76th minute in front of the box. However, the 22-year-old failed to collect it and take a shot, while the Goan defence was out of shape. He created a chance from just the eight touches he had in the game.
Lalruatthara - 5.0
Lalruatthara was not really an upgrade on Sailung. He failed to contain the cross for the late equalizer Goa scored. He completed just three passes from 17 touches.
Redeem Tlang - 5.5
He had 17 minutes on the field but only seven touches. The former NorthEast United forward cut a sorry figure on the field, as he failed to add anything to the Juggernauts' attack.
