Strikers and attacking midfielders continue to dominate the chart.

We are back once again with the Khel Now Power Rankings! Last season, our Power Rankings successfully identified the 10 best performers throughout the course of the league campaign and we have been doing the same in Indian Super League (ISL) season 2021-22 as well.

You all know the rules by now – but here’s a quick brush-up: For every ISL game, our respective correspondents and editors rank their three best-performing players from the match in order. The player ranked at the top of the list is awarded five points. The player finishing second earns three points, whereas the one at the bottom (third place) is given one point.

Such points are carried forward for every player involved in the league, once he’s chosen by our team. Eventually, the total number of points that they accumulate will decide their final position on the leaderboard at the end of the season. The Khel Now Power Rankings will be published in a series of five articles, as we have divided the league into five equal phases of 22 games each for the same. This article includes the rankings after Phase 3 of ISL 2021-22!

Note: Phase 3 of the 2021-22 ISL season began on December 30 with Chennaiyin FC locking horns with Bengaluru FC. The phase ended on January 20, after the postponed game between Kerala Blasters and ATK Mohun Bagan.

10. Javi Hernandez (Odisha FC) – 14 points

The Spanish playmaker has played an important role in changing the landscape for Odisha FC this season. He has been their go-to man for creating and scoring goals.

The 32-year-old usually plays behind the striker and shoulders the responsibility of linking up play. Javi Hernandez has scored and assisted four each in 14 games so far in ISL 2021-22, including a few picture-perfect strikes.

9. Cleiton Silva (Bengaluru FC) – 14 points

It has been a season full of exceptional individual brilliance for Cleiton Silva so far. The Brazilian started the 2021-22 campaign from where he left last season.

Silva has scored five goals and provided three assists in 13 matches for the former champions. The 34-year-old has been effective in multiple positions and is therefore one of Marco Pezzaiuoli’s most trusted lieutenants.

8. Alvaro Vazquez (Kerala Blasters) – 14 points

Alvaro has been a vital cog in Kerala Blasters’ resurgence this season. The striker has been phenomenal in front of goal with his accurate volleys and swift movement.

He improved his performance in Phase 3 and gathered a total of five points in just four matches. In 12 appearances so far in ISL 2021-22, Vazquez has accumulated five goal contributions, with four goals and an assist.

7. Ahmed Jahouh (Mumbai City) – 14 points

Ahmed Zahouh is another new entrant in this season’s Power Rankings. The Moroccan midfielder has shouldered multiple responsibilities for his side. From scoring screamers to providing quality deliveries from set-pieces, Jahouh does it all.

With just 11 matches into the season, the midfielder has racked up his career-best figures in the Indian top-flight. Jahouh has scored three goals and has assisted six so far this season.

6. Roy Krishna (ATK Mohun Bagan) – 14 points

The Fijian has had a very underwhelming 2021-22 ISL season according to his high standards. Yet, the target man has delivered match-winning performances for his side time and again.

In 10 matches so far, Krishna has recorded eight goal contributions, with four goals and assists each. However, Krishna struggled with his fitness in Phase 3 and played just around 78 minutes in three matches.

5. Alberto Noguera (FC Goa) – 18 points

Noguera has moved up to the fifth position after Phase 3 from seventh. The attacking midfielder has been consistently involved in the thick of things for the Gaurs.

Although it has been a season to forget for FC Goa, Noguera has continued to deliver good performances. He has scored three goals and assisted two in 14 matches in ISL 2021-22.

4. Hugo Boumous (ATK Mohun Bagan) – 18 points

Hugo Boumous has lived up to everyone’s expectations so far this season. The French-Moroccan attacker has continued his fine run of form even under new head coach Juan Ferrando.

Boumous has hit the back of net on five occasions and has also assisted three goals. His quick thinking, coupled with his swift movement and synergy with Roy Krishna and David Williams makes him more dangerous.

3. Bartholomew Ogbeche (Hyderabad FC) – 24 points

The Nigerian has played a big role in Hyderabad FC’s indomitable form this season. He has already hit double figures and is currently leading the goalscoring charts by a mile.

Moreover, Ogbeche surpassed Ferran Corominas to become the highest-ever goalscorer in the history of the Indian Super League, with 49 strikes to his name.

2. Adrian Luna (Kerala Blasters) – 28 points

The Uruguayan lynchpin has been the driving force behind Kerala Blasters’ exceptional run of form in ISL 2021-22. His ability to initiate link-up play and make the most out of dead-ball situations makes him a very special player. He has scored two goals. Other than that, the midfielder has also provided six assists in 12 outings.

1. Greg Stewart (Jamshedpur FC) – 33 points

The former Scottish Premier League champion continues to dominate the Power Rankings and has maintained his position at the top. Greg Stewart is the joint-highest assist-provider, with six assists to his name alongside five goals.

The 31-year-old has been consistent in creating and converting chances for the Men of Steel. Infact, he seems to be the missing piece in Jamshedpur FC’s puzzle and might help them to go the distance this season.
