Fresh crop of players make ISL 2021-22 Team of Gameweek 5
(Courtesy : ISL Media)
The week saw a total of 17 goals scored and a couple of closely-contested matches.
After the thrilling clash between FC Goa and SC East Bengal that ended 4-3, we saw defending champions Mumbai City increase their tally to 12 points in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2021-22 this week. Their 4-2 win against Jamshedpur FC cemented their hold over top spot in the table. Narrow upsets were dealt to Bengaluru FC and NorthEast by the likes of Hyderabad FC and Odisha FC respectively. The ISL 2021-22 Gameweek 5 ended with a 1-1 draw between ATK Mohun Bagan and Chenniayin FC.
Take a look at Khel Now's Team of the Week:
Goalkeeper: Kamaljit Singh (Odisha FC)
Odisha’s No.1 makes a return to the Team of the Week after having a bad run of games. The 6-4 win against SC East Bengal saw a lot of defensive mistakes from both sides. Kamaljit wouldn’t have been particularly impressed with his performance that night. He had no saves and certainly a forgettable outing. Against Kerala, he performed slightly better, with three important saves, but couldn’t stop the two goals that cost them the match. It was his season’s first clean-sheet.
While he had two dependable centre-backs in front of him, he came to the fore whenever he was called into action. With two saves and one clearance against NorthEast, he made sure he played his part perfectly.

Right-Back: Asish Rai (Hyderabad FC)
Hyderabad FC have had a fairly good start to the ISL 2021-22 season. With two wins and a draw, they now sit in fifth place on the points table. In this week, their right-back Asish Rai performed brilliantly in their 1-0 win over Bengaluru FC. The defender has started all their matches this season, but his shift was his best yet.
Rai had six clearances and successfully tackled the opposition thrice. He was a solid presence on the right side of the pitch, and was constantly keeping the likes Sunil Chhetri and Jayesh Rane in check.
Centre-Back: Gaurav Bora (Odisha FC)
Another player from Kiko Ramirez’s team to feature in this team is Gaurav Bora. The centre-back was part of the defence that kept a clean-sheet against NorthEast United. He needed to up his game after poor displays in previous games and did just that.
He was effective in his duels, winning three ground duels and four aerial duels. His 82% passing accuracy was another striking feature that impressed many.
Centre-Back: Chinglensana Singh (Hyderabad FC)
The defender also played a huge role in their 1-0 victory over Bengaluru FC. He was aware of his surroundings which is reflected in his eight clearances.
More importantly, he was very good in one-on-ones with opposition players. He won most of his ground and aerial duels (4 out of 5), which exemplifies his solidity at the back.
Left-Back: Lalruatthara (Odisha FC)
He is the third man from Odisha’s camp to feature on this week’s team. The defender wasn’t quite impactful going forward, but he did his job at the back.
His defensive duties helped his team clinch the narrow victory. He cleared the ball four times and made three tackles throughout the game. His passing accuracy (71%) was also really admirable in that game.

Right Midfielder: Anirudh Thapa (Chennaiyin FC)
The Chennaiyin captain is having a brilliant season so far in ISL 2021-22. After his brilliant solo goal against NorthEast United, he went under the radar in the match against SC East Bengal.
He re-emerged as an important cog of the midfield machine in their 1-1 draw with ATK Mohun Bagan. His 84% accuracy in his passes is nothing short of amazing for the 23-year old. In the match, he had two successful dribbles, which shows his ball-carrying ability.
Central Midfielder: Vladimir Koman (Chennaiyin FC)
Thapa is joined in the midfield trio by his teammate Vladimir Koman. The Hungarian has given nothing but consistent performances which have contributed to their unbeaten run.
He was the sole goalscorer for Chennaiyin against ATKMB and had two key passes as well. Having him in the middle of the park is quite reassuring, as he is also defensively sound (won 4 out of 5 ground duels).
Central Midfielder: Cassio Gabriel (Mumbai City)
He was the star man against Jamshedpur FC. He had not only begun the scoring for his team, but also setup the next two which saw Mumbai lead Jamshedpur 3-0 at half-time.
The Brazilian is an absolute magician with the ball and has proven that he can provide as well as finish the chances that come to him.

Left Midfielder: Liston Colaco (ATK Mohun Bagan)
The Indian bagged his third goal of the ISL 2021-22 season against Chennaiyin. Even though the match ended in both the teams sharing the spoils, Colaco was a menace for the opposition. His staggering 88% passing accuracy is one of the many reasons for keeping him in this Team of the Week.
Second Striker: Alberto Noguera (FC Goa)
The match between FC Goa and SC East Bengal was a delight to watch for any neutral fan. However, the proceedings were quite nerve-wracking for a supporter of either side.
Amongst other performers on the night, the FC Goa midfielder is definitely one of them. His two goals and 89% passing accuracy make him a sure-shot presence in this team.
Striker: Antonio Perosevic (SC East Bengal)
The Croatian's team have had bad luck, but he is enjoying his time in ISL 2021-22. Despite narrowly losing out on the three points, the forward tried his best to bring his team back into the game with the help of his brace.
