East Bengal have completed the signing of 24-year-old Australian midfielder Jordan O’Doherty on a year-long deal. The signing of the former A-League player completes the foreign quota for Emami-sponsored giants. Under Stephen Constantine, East Bengal are looking for a resurgence and they have made some interesting signings for the same. Revealing the Australian as the final piece of the puzzle, Constantine looks to solve the midfield woes the team had last season.
Jordan will be making his way to the Indian Super League at the growing age of 24. Here, we take a look at his profile and what the Australian brings to the table.

Prior experience
In August 2016, O'Doherty signed a two-year senior contract with Adelaide United after playing for their youth team. He made his A-League debut against Newcastle Jets in a 1–1 draw. Following that, O’Doherty signed a three-year contract with Western Sydney Wanderers. He joined the Jets yet again in 2021.
Before coming to India for the upcoming ISL season, Jordan made 23 appearances for Newcastle Jets in A-League.
Type of player
The player prefers to operate as a central midfielder. He has the vision and the passing ability to set up the tempo of the game. Speaking simply, Jordan is the one who loves to assist the assist.
One can also expect defensive solidity from the player. He can challenge his opponents, make crucial interceptions and puts in timely sliding tackles. Jordan is rock solid in ground duels. He can get an edge over his opponents despite lacking physicality. Thus, it will be hard for the opponents to get past this midfielder.
The Australian can also play in attacking midfield and on the left wing, but that seems least likely to be in the presence of Alex Lima.

What does he bring to the team
Constantine prefers strong and direct players in his system. He can be crucial when the Red and Gold brigade need to play Constantine's infamous long-ball strategy. As we all know, the league is getting difficult and stronger every season. The midfielder, however, through his game, proposes solidity to the defence as well as making a contribution to the attacking third.
The 24-year-old brings stability and flexibility to the side. With Jordan’s presence in the middle, the manager can provide the license to Alex Lima to move forward with the ball which will help the team to play a more attacking and free-flowing style of football.
