Iker Guarrotxena set to join ISL outfit FC Goa on multi-year deal
The winger has played 127 matches in La Liga 2.
Spanish winger Iker Guarrotxena is all set to join FC Goa on a multiple year deal, Khel Now can confirm. A source close to the development informed Khel Now, “Iker Guarrotxena is set to join FC Goa on a multi-year deal beating an ISL and few European clubs.”
With the joining of Guarrotxena, FC Goa will complete their third foreign signing for this season.
About the Player
The Spaniard is mainly a left winger, but can play as a centre-forward and on the right wing as well. Guarrotxena boasts of a reputation of playing 127 matches in the second tier of Spain. He has also made five appearances in the reputed Copa del Rey.
The 29-year-old has played 309 matches in his career. Notably, the winger has the ability to score as well. He has a total of 60 goals to his name along with 23 assists. Last season he played for UD Logrones in the third tier of Spain. Undoubtedly, he played an integral role in the team as he scored 14 times in 39 occasions, along with assisting thrice for his teammates. Like other Spaniards to travel to India, he has played for clubs like Cultural Leonesa, CD Mirandes and CD Tenerife. Additionally, Guarrotxena spent his youth days playing at Athletic Bilbao.
FC Goa’s preparations for ISL 2022/23
FC Goa have already extended the contract of players like Edu Bedia, Princeton Rebello and Seriton Fernandes. They have also bagged the services of former Kerala Blasters forward Alvaro Vazquez. In April, they signed their former defender, Carlos Pena as the successor of Derrick Pereira at the helm. The coach is expected to arrive in the last week of June.
The club are currently after an Indian winger ahead of the next ISL season. Also, three more foreigners are to be added to the contingent very soon. As per sources, FC Goa are aiming to field their best XI in the Durand Cup as well. The Durand Cup is reported to begin from 16th August, with the Kolkata derby.
