The new signing also spoke about his preferred position and the project at KBFC.

Kerala Blasters were one of the surprise packages last season. From losing their first game to scripting their road to the final, the Blasters proved their worth. However, their fairytale story didn’t quite end the way they would have wanted as they lost their third final in a row.

Ivan Vukomanovic's men couldn’t lift the trophy, but gave their fans millions of reasons to celebrate. And with a hope to continue their momentum in the 2022-23 season, they have started to gear up.

The tuskers have roped in former ISL champion and experienced defender Victor Mongil on a free transfer. The Spaniard becomes the second foreign signing for the Blasters after Australian-greek forward Apostolos Giannou.

After putting pen to paper with the three time ISL runners-up, Mongil shared his thoughts in a club interview. Here’s what he had to say.

Move to Kerala Blasters FC

The Spaniard opened up on his move to KBFC. He said that he waited for three years for a move to Kochi because Kerala Blasters are the biggest club in India.

“I waited for three years to sign for KBFC. Before I had possibilities to join this club, but now it’s a reality. The fans are unbelievable. They congratulated me with love and I’m very thankful to the fans.

“I played three years in India and I have been lucky to play for some really top clubs in ATK FC and Odisha FC but for me, this move was the best. Kerala Blasters is the biggest club in India. Hopefully we have a good season ahead,” Victor asserted.

Kerala Blasters’ Project

He further shared a word on Kerala Blasters’ project. Victor Mongil mentioned that Kerala Blasters always fight for the top position and it was one of the major reasons behind him signing for them.

“I like the Kerala Blasters’ project. They’re always fighting for the top position. I’ll give my everything and we’ll fight in every game. Let’s hope luck is on our side and hopefully we can get the trophy this time,” he said.

Role Model for young players

The 29-year-old also said that he wants to be a role model for the young players at Kerala Blasters. He wants to help them get better in every aspect of the game in order to win the trophy.

“They have good young players and they have many players who play in the national team. I want to help the young players in every way possible. Not just on the pitch but off the pitch as well. In football, you can be flying high or you can be down.

“In my experience in India, I want to help these young players when it comes to their skills, diet and everything. I think it’s important for them to be professional and if they do that then we have a great chance to win the trophy,” he explained.

Preferred Position

The multifaceted defender also shared his thoughts on his preferred position, but also mentioned that he is ready to adapt according to the team’s requirements.

“I prefer playing central defender. But maybe the coach would want me to play as a defensive midfielder and I don’t have any problem with that. In Spain, the rule is take the ball, pass the ball. For me it doesn’t matter because everytime I’m on the pitch, I’m going to give it my all,” he described.

Message to the Fans

Victor Mongil signed off with a special message for the fans of Kerala Blasters. He thanked them and promised to give it his all next season.

"Thank you for so much love on social media and everywhere. It is unbelievable. I promise that I’ll give my 100% on the pitch. Hopefully, we will be in a good position this season. I want to see a full stadium and thank you so much,” he signed off.
