NorthEast United sign Emil Benny on multi-year deal
The midfielder scored a goal and provided two assists last season.
Emil Benny is set to sign for NorthEast United FC, Khel Now can confirm. A source close to the development informed Khel Now, “Emil Benny is set to sign for NorthEast United FC. It is a three-year deal.”Emil Benny had his contract with Gokulam Kerala till 2023. As per the source, NorthEast United have paid a transfer fee as well. Benny played an integral role in Gokulam Kerala’s I-League triumph last season. He even fared well in the AFC Cup. How he performs in the Indian Super League will be noticed after the league commences.
About the player
Emil Benny hails from the MSP Football Academy. He was also a part of the Kerala Blasters youth setup (U-18 side). From the Blasters, he made a move to Gokulam Kerala’s reserve team in 2019. Since 2020, the 21-year-old was a part of the Malabarians’ main team. In the 2021/22 edition of the I-League, Benny played 18 matches for the club. In the process, he scored a goal and provided two assists.
A few months back, he made his debut in the AFC Cup as well. In the continental competition, he featured in all three group stage games. Eventually, he played against ATK Mohun Bagan, Basundhara Kings and Maziya Sports & Recreation Club.
NorthEast United’s preparations for ISL 2022/23
NorthEast United have parted ways with their head coach Khalid Jamil. They are yet to appoint someone in his place. The club has extended the stay of Provat Lakra. He is currently one of the longest serving players at the club (since 2018). Also, the Highlanders have acquired the services of Gaurav Bora in their defensive third. The club is set to feature in the Durand Cup in August.
