NorthEast United sign young forward Parthib Sundar Gogoi
The 19-year-old was part of the Indian team that lifted the SAFF U-20 Championship recently.
Indian Super League (ISL) side NorthEast United have won the race against all odds to land local lad Parthib Sundar Gogoi ahead of the 2022-23 season, Khel Now can confirm. The youngster will team up with the Highlanders post the AFC U-20 Qualifiers to be held in Iraq this month.
“NorthEast United have completed the signing of Parthib Gogoi on a three-year deal. The Highlanders faced tough competition from many ISL sides and even had to shell out a transfer fee.,” a source close to developments told Khel Now.

About the player
Gogoi hails from Assam’s Nazira, a town situated in the historic district of Sivasagar. He started his career with Bengaluru-based Ozone FC. He has played for India U-15, U-16, and U-17 and is currently a U-20 international. Parthib belongs to a rare group of players who had the chance to train at FC Bayern Munich.
Parthib came into the national team setup in 2019 when he represented India at the Tri-Nation Cup in UAE. He scored four goals in eight matches at the championship and earned applause for his heroic performance.

He then joined the AIFF’s developmental side, the Indian Arrows in 2019. Gogoi was selected in the squad for the 2020-21 I-League. He scored and assisted a goal for the Arrows in a 2-1 win against Aizawl FC where he opened the scoring early on with a brilliant strike and later set up his teammate for the winner.
The following season Parthib became an integral part of the Indian Arrows set-up and was named the captain by the coach. After a decent debut season with the Arrows, Gogoi had to level up himself. He completed the season with two goals and an assist in 17 games, including two winners against Sudeva Delhi and Real Kashmir respectively.

SAFF U-20 Triumph
The forward set the stage on fire with his outstanding displays at the 2022 SAFF U-20 Championship. He scored four goals in the tournament in five games. His tally included braces against Sri Lanka and Nepal respectively.
Following his heroics at the tourney, Gogoi earned a lot of attention from ISL and I-League clubs. But, in the end, he chose to go with his home club, NorthEast United where he will team up with his brother Pragyan Gogoi.
Parthib is more than just a regular forward. He can play anywhere across the front three and even as a right midfielder. Gogoi is a tireless worker both on and off the ball. He has been impressive with his pressing and attacking challenges in the season gone by.
The 19-year-old is not shy to test the keeper from outside the box. He can even initiate link-up play by dropping deep into his half. In short, he has a lot to offer and NorthEast United have certainly completed a heist with his signing.
