Versatile defender extends stay
Jassim, born in Kerala, is notable for being the first player from the state to win three consecutive I-League titles. A source close to the development informed Khel Now, “Jassim is a player with great potential and the club is well aware of it. Therefore, Mohammedan Sporting Club are set to extend his contract with a multi-year deal.”
Jassim’s statement on contract extension
On his contract extension, Jassim expressed his happiness: “I’m so happy to be part of the club for the next couple of years. It was a great experience when I joined Mohammedan Sporting Club, such a historic club. Together, we worked hard as a team and achieved the title. It was always my dream to play in the ISL and I’m thrilled to be part of it with Mohammedan SC itself. We’ll continue working as a unit and strive to maintain our winning form in the ISL.”
Turning point at Gokulam Kerala
Jassim began his career with the Malabar Special Police Academy. Seeking a bigger platform, he moved to Goa and joined the Vasco Sports Club in the Goa Professional League. However, it was his move to Gokulam Kerala that truly proved to be a turning point. While opportunities were limited in his first season (2020-21), Jassim’s dedication paid off in the subsequent seasons.
He established himself as a core player, featuring in a total of 39 matches for Gokulam Kerala, including appearances in the AFC Cup playoffs and the I-League. With Gokulam, he won the I-League twice in the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons.
In 2023, Jassim’s impressive form caught the eye of Mohammedan Sporting Club, where he played nine matches and won the I-League once again.
