EXCL: ISL Side SC Delhi signs Burundian international David Richard Ndayishimiye & defender Duván Viáfara

Capital Club continues an ambitious rebuild by adding two overseas players ahead of the 2026-27 season.
Indian Super League (ISL) club Sporting Club Delhi (SC Delhi) have completed the signing of Burundian international David Richard Ndayishimiye on a long-term deal, Khel Now can exclusively reveal.
The 22-year-old midfielder has signed a one-year contract with an option to extend it by a further two seasons. SC Delhi beat interest from multiple overseas clubs to secure the signature of the highly-rated Burundian, who was available as a free agent after leaving Rwandan Premier League side Rayon Sports.
As reported elsewhere, the club have also strengthened their defence by signing Colombian centre-back Duván Viáfara on a one-year contract with an option to extend it for another season.
The double signing is another statement of intent from SC Delhi as they prepare for the 2026-27 campaign under Polish head coach Tomasz Tchórz.
David Richard Ndayishimiye: One of East Africa’s brightest midfield prospects
Despite being only 22, Ndayishimiye already brings senior international experience with Burundi and has established himself as one of the most promising young midfielders in the Rwanda Premier League.
Born in Bukavu, DR Congo, the left-footed midfielder can operate as both a central midfielder and a defensive midfielder.
He enjoyed an impressive 2025-26 season with Rayon Sports, playing all 19 league matches, logging 1,710 minutes, and contributing one goal and one assist. His performances earned nominations for the Rwanda Premier League’s Best Player and Young Player of the Year awards.
Ndayishimiye started his senior career with Burundi Sport Dynamik before moving to Rwanda with Muhazi United in 2023. His impressive displays there convinced Rayon Sports, one of Rwanda’s biggest clubs, to sign him in June 2024 for a ₹13 lakh transfer fee.
Playing for Rayon Sports comes with significant pressure due to the club’s huge fanbase and expectations of competing for trophies every season. The Burundian adapted quickly, becoming a regular starter and earning praise for his consistency in midfield.
His club form also helped him break into Burundi’s senior national team after impressing with the country’s U-20 side during the 2022 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Earlier this year, the midfielder travelled to Uzbekistan for a trial with top-flight side Navbahor Namangan, although a permanent move did not materialise.
A midfielder suited to Tomasz Tchórz’s style

Ndayishimiye is not a traditional holding midfielder. Instead, he is comfortable receiving possession under pressure and progressing the ball through midfield.
Standing at 5’7″, he relies on close control, quick turns and intelligent movement to escape pressing situations rather than physicality. While naturally a box-to-box midfielder, he is equally capable of playing as the lone defensive midfielder, where his positional awareness and ability to intercept passes allow him to shield the backline effectively.
His energy, tactical discipline and ability to contribute in both attack and defence make him a natural fit for Tomasz Tchórz’s high-intensity system, which demands midfielders who can cover ground, win the ball back and initiate attacks.
SC Delhi strengthen defence with Duván Viáfara

Alongside Ndayishimiye, SC Delhi have also completed the signing of Colombian defender Duván Viáfara.
The 27-year-old has signed a one-year deal with an option for an additional season after leaving Colombian side Tigres FC.
Standing at 1.87 metres, Viáfara is a naturally left-footed centre-back known for his aerial ability, composure on the ball and physical presence.
The Colombian began his professional career with Inter Palmira before gaining experience in Colombia’s top division with Once Caldas and Jaguares. He later featured for Venezuelan clubs Hermanos Colmenárez and Deportivo La Guaira before moving to the United States to join Chattanooga FC.
After returning to Colombia earlier this year, Viáfara became an important figure for Tigres FC, making 17 appearances across the 2026 Torneo DIMAYOR I campaign and scoring once.
His ability to play out from the back with his stronger left foot, combined with his experience across South America and North America, is expected to add balance to SC Delhi’s defence.
SC Delhi continsue busy summer rebuild
SC Delhi have already begun pre-season preparations and are set to compete in the Durand Cup for the first time in the club’s history.
The club recently sold captain Alex Saji to Mohun Bagan for an undisclosed transfer fee and have quickly moved to strengthen the squad in both domestic and international markets.
The arrivals of Ndayishimiye and Viáfara underline the club’s ambition as it continues to reshape the squad ahead of the 2026-27 season.
