Bengaluru FC set to sign impressive forward Bidyashagar Singh
The 23-year-old was adjudged 'Hero of the Season' after starring for TRAU FC in I-League 2020-21.
Indian Super League outfit Bengaluru FC are all set to complete the signing of Bidyashagar Singh, Khel Now has learned. The forward had attracted interest from at least four other ISL sides as well, before the Blues emerged as the clear frontrunners in the race to sign him. If all goes to plan and there are no last-minute hiccups, the 2018-19 champions will have him on their books soon.
"Bengaluru FC will sign Bidyashagar Singh," a source close to the developments informed Khel Now. The 23-year-old scored 12 goals for TRAU FC in I-League 2020-21. In doing so, he also became the top scorer of the league, a rare feat for a domestic player in Indian football.
Bidyashagar's career so far
Bidyashagar Singh began his club football career at East Bengal, initially playing for their U-18 team before getting promoted to the senior team. Despite showing promise with the Red & Gold Brigade, they did not retain him while making the jump to the ISL last season. As a result, Bidyashagar joined TRAU - and the rest is history, as he almost single-handedly led them in the I-League 2020-21 title race.

TRAU needed a win against Gokulam Kerala on the final day to take home the trophy. By the end of the first half, the Manipuri striker had scored once and placed his team on the driving seat, but GKFC had other plans. They scored four goals in the second half to complete a terrific comeback and win the crown.
The 23-year-old, meanwhile, wrapped up his campaign with several individual accolades - the Top Scorer award, the 'Hero of the Season' award and a place in the I-League 'Team of the Season.'
It was all that was needed for ISL clubs to sit up and take note, as we have learned that at least four other ISL sides apart from BFC had expressed interest in signing him. These included some of the biggest names in the league, but in the end it looks like the Blues have sealed the deal.

Bengaluru FC's pre-season preparations
BFC had their worst-ever outing to-date in the ISL last season, when they finished in seventh place, outside the playoffs spots. They also had to part ways with then head coach Carles Cuadrat during the season, with assistant coach Naushad Moosa taking charge in the interim.
The club have since welcomed Marco Pezzaiuoli as the new head coach, and recently bid adieu to Dimas Delgado, Rahul Bheke, Harmanjot Khabra and Semboi Haokip. With Cleiton Silva, Erik Paartalu and Juanan set to continue, the Blues are on the lookout for more foreign signings and also some domestic talents to replace the outgoing names.
The potential signing of Bidyashagar Singh is an indication that Bengaluru FC are planning well ahead of the upcoming season. In addition to the ISL, they are also paying attention to the AFC Cup 2021.
