Edu Bedia to extend contract with FC Goa for upcoming season

The Spanish midfielder will play in his sixth year in India.

FC Goa’s Spanish Midfielder Edu Bedia is set to sign a one-year contract extension with FC Goa, Khel Now can confirm. The Spanish Midfielder has already played a record 102 matches for FC Goa and will look to add to his tally in the coming season.

A source close to the developments confirmed to Khel Now, “ Edu Bedia will sign his contract extension with FC Goa very soon. He will be with the club for the coming season.”

Edu Bedia in Indian Super League

An academy graduate of Racing Santander and also a former Barcelona B player, Edu Bedia joined FC Goa ahead of the 2017-18 ISL season. He has since gone on to represent the crest in 87 ISL matches, scoring on 10 occasions and assisting 13 times.

Overall, Bedia has scored and assisted 13 times each for FC Goa. During his time at the club, he has also won the ISL League Shield, the Super Cup and the Durand Cup apart from also captaining the club regularly.

FC Goa in ISL 2021-22

Last season was a disaster for FC Goa. They finished ninth in the league table, with just four wins from 20 matches. Having started off poorly with three consecutive defeats, FC Goa was rediscovering its form when head coach Juan Ferrando jumped ship to join ATK Mohun Bagan after activating his release clause.

The club then appointed Derrick Pereira to see off the season. With a new coach at the helm, FC Goa showed some resurgence but were plagued by injuries and recurring COVID-19 positive cases in the squad. They lacked the consistency needed for a top-four finish and eventually finished at the bottom half of the standings.

FC Goa have already confirmed the appointment of former club player Carlos Pena as their head coach for the upcoming season. With several stars departing, the extension of Edu Bedia will surely be a great boost to the fans of Gaurs.
