Rising Student's Club and SETHU win as Eastern Sporting Union are held in IWL

This is the first time that ESU have dropped points in the league this season.

Rising Student Club steamed past Indira Gandhi Academy for Sports and Education 6-1 in a group stage match of the second edition of the Hero Indian Women’s League at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Shillong, Meghalaya on April 04, 2018.

Rising Student Club maintained their grip throughout the match and braces by Pyari Xaxa , Anju Tamang and Sanju led the club to an easy win. Indira Gandhi Academy had reduced the deficit in the 54th minute through Amsavalli Narayanan.

Rising Student Club registered their first shot on goal in the 1st minute of the match to set precedent for the remainder of the match. Pyari Xaxa proved to be a threat for the opposition defence, leading the attack, and in the 9th minute, her header from inside the box crashed into the back of the net, off a cross from the right flank, to give Rising Student Club the lead.

Shortly after in the 13th minute, Pyari once again burst into the box but this time she acutely slipped the ball beneath the onrushing goalkeepers’ legs to double Rising Student Club’s lead. In the 27th minute, Anju Tamang blasted her shot into the back of the net to triple Rising Student Club’s lead going into the half-time leading 3-0.

That wasn’t all from Rising Student Club, as they continued their attacking tempo in the second half. Sanju’s strike in the 50th minute made it 4-0 for Rising Student Club and although Indira Gandhi Academy pulled a goal back in the 54th minute through Amsavalli Narayanan, Rising Student still attacked.

In the 58th minute, Rising Student forced Indira Gandhi Academy to make a goal-line clearance and two minutes later, at the other end; Indira Gandhi Academy fluffed their chance in front of goal.

Anju Tamang found the side-netting in the 70th minute after Sanju’s strike was parried away by the opposition custodian. The Rising Student Club maintained their hold on the match and crushed any signs of Indira Gandhi Academy’s resurgence. Anju Tamang's goal in the 83rd minute and Sanju's strike from a tight angle in the 87th minute added more gloss to the scoreline. The full-time scoreline read 6-1 as Rising Student Club registered an easy win over their opponents.

Eastern Sporting Union and KRYHPSA play out a draw

Eastern Sorting Union played out a 1-1 draw with KRYHPSA in a group stage match of the second edition of the Hero Indian Women’s League at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Shillong, Meghalaya on April 04, 2018.

Bala Devi’s 14th-minute goal was cancelled out by Roja Devi’s strike in the dying embers of the first half as both teams shared points.  

In a tightly contested game, both teams tested each other abilities on the field. However it was KRYHPSA that initiated the early attack when in the 2nd minute itself, Ratanbala Devi’s freekick went inches over the Eastern Sporting Union goal.

Four minutes later, at the end other, Kamala Devi was handed a golden opportunity to score for ESU but with no real pressure from the opposing defence and only the custodian to beat, she shot wide of the goal.

It wasn’t long before ESU rued their missed opportunity in front of goal and in the 14th minute, Bala Devi’s rasping shot crashed into the back of the net to give KRYHPSA a solitary goal lead.

Although Eastern Sporting Union kept knocking on KRYHPSA’s defence, it wasn’t until the 43rd minute that the team had a clear opportunity. A scrappy clearance from KRYHPSA’s defence fell to skipper Prameshwori Devi inside the box, but Prameshwori Devi’s shot sailed over the bar.

First-half substitute Roja Devi levelled the proceedings for ESU in the added extra time of the first half, after her volley from inside the box proved too much to handle for Roshini Devi. The half-time scoreline read 1-1.

In an end-to-end second half, both teams stretched each other out and tested each other’s custodian. In the 46th minute itself, the opposing custodian mopped up Kamala Devi’s shot from distance easily and carrying their momentum ESU forced KRYHPSA into making a goal-line clearance in the 60th minute.

Prameshwori Devi released a cross from the right flank for Mandakini Devi, only for the latter’s header to be thwarted away from goal.

In the 75th minute, KRYHPSA were awarded a penalty after Ratanbala Devi was fouled in the box, but Ashalata Devi failed to test Panthoi Chanu from the spot-kick as she shot wide of the goal.

The full-time scoreline read 1-1 as both teams shared the spoils of battle.

SETHU FC came back from behind to defeat India Rush SC 3-2 in a group stage match of the second edition of the Hero Indian Women’s League at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Shillong, Meghalaya on April 04, 2018.

In a scintillating first half, India Rush FC took the lead in the 2nd minute of the match itself when Samiksha burst onto goal and scored, stunning SETHU FC’s defence in the process. Rattled, SETHU FC dug deep and started to dominate possession, whilst showing signs of brilliance in the attacking third.

In the 22nd minute, Bangladesh International Sabina Khatun scored for SETHU FC to level proceedings and make it 1-1. Two minutes later, SETHU FC almost took the lead but the resulting shot went wide of the goal as India Rush SC survived a scare.

Indumathi tapped home a low cross from the left flank in the 44th minute to give SETHU FC a solitary goal lead as the scoreline read 2-1, but in a frantic ending to the half India Rush SC scored courtesy of Nisha in the 45th minute to make it 2-2. But that was not all.

In the added extra time of the first half, SETHU FC were awarded a penalty but Indumathi shot wide of the goal as the half-time scoreline read 2-2.

Changing over, SETHU FC continued their attacking momentum and in the 49th minute, Indhrani’s header from inside the box went inches over the bar.

The intensity of the second half was nowhere near the first as both teams gauged each other and approached cautiously. In the 70th minute, Dalima Chhibber’s freekick went over the bar as India Rush SC proceeded to up the ante.

But not for long as SETHU FC, determined to grab points out of the fixture, committed bodies into defence and thwarted attacks with ease. However in the 77th minute, SETHU FC rattled the woodwork to give India Rush a scare.

In the 86th minute, Sabina Khatun finished her chance with perfection and scored to give SETHU FC a solitary goal lead as the scoreline read 3-2. Shortly after, SETHU FC had the chance to double their lead but failed to make the most out of it.

The full-time scoreline read 3-2 as SETHU FC emerged eventual victors.
