Getafe make offer to sign former Manchester United attacker Jadon Sancho

Sancho’s future remains in free agency limbo.
Former Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho has been given a return route to football after LaLiga side Getafe made an official offer to sign the former England international on a free transfer. Sancho has been a free agent since his United contract expired at the end of last season, and he has been searching for a club since then.
According to Spanish newspaper Sport, citing Sky Sports Germany, Getafe submitted their first official offer to Sancho’s representatives on Thursday, October 15. According to media reports, the 26-year-old winger is believed to favour a move away from his native England, although he remains open to all options.
Sancho joined Manchester United from Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund in 2021 in a deal worth £73 million. However, the player failed to establish himself in the first team at Old Trafford and spent several years out on loan at Dortmund, Chelsea and Aston Villa.
He spent the last season on loan at Aston Villa, making 39 appearances and winning the UEFA Europa League trophy. United head coach Michael Carrick opted against renewing the player’s contract, making him a free agent.

According to Marca, Getafe are hoping Sancho can make an immediate impact in Madrid like another former Manchester United player, Mason Greenwood. The latter was signed on loan from the Red Devils in 2023 and rebuilt his career in LaLiga before moving to Marseille in 2024.
Los Azulones will hope for a similar trajectory for Sancho. He is currently worth around 10 million euros, although there will be no transfer fee involved as the player is out of contract. However, the biggest hurdle in the path of this transfer remains Sancho’s wage demands.
According to media reports, Getafe will need to work hard to accommodate the player’s salary within their wage structure, respecting the guidelines set by LaLiga. However, if this can be sorted, Sancho will undoubtedly add a lot of quality to Jose Bordalas’ squad.
Getafe already signed former Real Madrid right-back Dani Carvajal in October. The 34-year-old joined as a free agent after his Los Blancos contract expired at the end of last season.
