The new deal will see the forward remain at the club until 2022.
Indian Super League (ISL) outfit ATK Mohun Bagan have announced that star striker Jobby Justin has extended his term at the club by two more years. The new deal will now see the 26-year-old remain with the club until 2022.
"Jobby Justin will stay in the City of Joy as the striker signs a two-year deal with the club. Here's wishing him goals and success in the Green & Maroon," ATKMB's official announcement on their social media handles read. The attacker himself expressed happiness at having a contract extension with the club.
"I am so happy and proud to join ATK Mohun Bagan FC in creating history in this new era and to sparkle goals to the City of Joy," the striker said.
Jobby Justin is currently in his hometown of Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala, while the Indian football transfer market has just opened for the summer. In May, Khel Now had caught up with the player and he revealed that he would be continuing his football career in Kolkata next season.
"My focus is currently on improving myself at ATK. I’ve already played at East Bengal and now with my club merging with Mohun Bagan, I can say that in a way, I’ve played for three of the most legendary football clubs not only in Kolkata but also when you take the whole of India into account. I also won the ISL in my first-ever season and that is a remarkable achievement," he had said.
The 2019-20 ISL campaign was only a moderate success for the forward, as he made 10 appearances for ATK. He was also an unused substitute in both the semi-finals and the final and made it into his team’s starting XI only thrice during the season, managing a goal and an assist.
"It’s true that I got fewer chances than expected in my first season, but it’s fine really. I am definitely looking forward to impressing coach Antonio Habas and getting more chances next time,” he had said.
ATK Mohun Bagan have five forward options to choose from currently - Roy Krishan, David Williams, Manvir Singh, Subha Ghosh and Jobby Justin. It remains to be seen how the Green and Maroons will accommodate each of them in their plans for the upcoming ISL campaign.
