Chelsea are set to face Malaysian side Johor Darul Ta’zim in an exciting pre-season friendly fixture at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in Johor on Sunday, August 9. New head coach Xabi Alonso has overseen a mixed pre-season campaign in charge of the Blues, winning two out of four games. He will look to end the tour on a high.
Chelsea began their campaign with a thrilling 6-4 win over Western Sydney Wanderers. However, the Premier League giants suffered back-to-back narrow losses to Tottenham Hotspur (2-1) and Juventus (1-0).
The Blues ended this run with a 3-0 thrashing of AC Milan on Friday. They will play their second match within 24 hours tonight. This will allow Alonso to give the fringe members a run as well as test his squad depth.
For Johor Darul Ta’zim, tonight’s match is an opportunity to test themselves against a world-class opponent. The Malaysian outfit had earlier managed a goalless draw against LaLiga side Elche. They followed it up with a 2-0 win over third-division side FC Cartagena.
