Gennaro Gattuso’s Lazio eye top of the table with win over Juventus in Torino
Under the snow-dusted, jagged peaks of the Western Alps along the northern rim of Turin, the Allianz Arena in Torino gears up to host Matchweek 7 of the Serie A, where home team Juventus and Lazio face each other in what is set to be a thrilling clash.
The Old Lady are placed sixth in the points table with 11 points from six games. They are coming off a 1-1 draw against Cagliari. Maldini’s 20th-minute opener was neutralised by Randal Kolo Muani in the 81st minute to help Juventus walk away with a point in the last game.
Kolo Muani ended a 17-month Serie A goal drought with his header at Cagliari and will be keen to go all guns blazing against the joint table toppers. Juventus won 12 of their last 16 Serie A home matches against Lazio, losing just once. They will be without Spalletti in the dugout, who picked up a red card in the last game.
Talking about Lazio, they are placed jointly atop the points table and are coming off consecutive wins over Venezia and Monza. They have won five out of their first six games, and the next game against Juventus will not be an easy one, especially in Torino.
Former Italy national team gaffer Gennaro Gattuso has done a pretty amazing job after taking over the reins of Lazio. The Rome-based outfit are one of the title contenders so far in Serie A after the first six matchweeks, and Gattuso will be keen to extend his team’s unbeaten streak against the Old Lady.
Players to Watch
Douglas Luiz (Juventus)
The Brazilian midfielder has plied his trade with Aston Villa, Manchester City and Nottingham Forest before making a move to Torino with Juventus. He is one of the most technically sound players in the team who will be up against Isaksen in the next game.
He offers tempo control and defensive coverage, and he’s also a major threat on set pieces for the Bianconeri midfield. An Olympic Gold medalist in Tokyo 2020 and a seasoned senior international for the Brazil national team, Luiz will be a player to watch out for Juventus in the next game.
Davide Frattesi (Lazio)
Currently on loan from Inter Milan, the Rome-born midfielder is a hyper-energetic and goal-scoring engine for Lazio in the midfield. At the Stadio Olimpico, he is an undisputed midfield catalyst, having scored three goals in seven games so far this season.
Frattesi possesses a natural sense of timing and has been brilliant so far for Gattuso’s side. He will face Argentine winger Nicolás González on the right wing and will be tasked with the responsibility of dominating the midfield for Lazio.
