Kerala Premier League 2021: Fixtures, results, standings & more
The new edition of the competition began on March 6, 2021 (Article last updated on 21st April).
The 2021 edition of the Kerala Premier League (KPL) kicked off on March 6, 2021 and the matches were held at two different venues – the Maharaja's College Stadium at Kochi and the Municipal Corporation Stadium at Thrissur.
Kerala Premier League 2021 season had 12 teams battling it out among each other to find the champion of Kerala football. The tournament was held by the Kerala Football Association in association with Ramco Cements.
The 2021 edition of the tournament was the seventh iteration of what is also the only state-level football tournament in South India. In a statement released by the Kerala FA prior to the start of the competition, it was announced that the winners would take home ₹3 lacs as a cash award along with the coveted KPL trophy. The runners-up were entitled to a cash award of ₹1 lacs.
Over the years, the Kerala Premier League has played a role in the rise of several star players like NorthEast United forward VP Suhair and ex-Kerala Blasters star Arjun Jayaraj. Both of them are also former KPL champions, having won the trophy with Gokulam Kerala in 2018. Arjun scored one of his team's two goals in the final against Quartz FC (now Kerala United).
Interestingly, the 24-year-old will captain Kerala United this season in the KPL, having left the Blasters' senior team last December.
