Khelo India Youth Games Football: Goa spoil Manipur's party, Northeast girls begin campaign in style
Elsewhere Kerala U-17 Boys beat Uttar Pradesh, while Manipur U-21 Girls outclassed Jharkhand.
Goa spoiled Manipur’s party by handing them a 1-0 defeat in the boys’ U-21 category while the girls from the North-East opened their campaign with thumping wins in the football competition of the Khelo India Youth Games in Pune on Friday.
Manipur girls proved too strong for their rivals in both the U-17 and U-21, defeating Chandigarh 10-1 in the former category and Jharkhand 12-0 in the senior event.
In a keen contest, Goa took the lead in the 20th minute through Veegan, who converted a spot kick. Manipur threw everything they had at the Goa goal but failed to find the equaliser, allowing the Goans to open their campaign with the full three points.
It was left to the girls to take revenge and they duly dismantled Jharkhand in the U-21 section, Sultana leading the charge with five goals. Th Babysana Devi (4) and H..Daya Devi (3) completed the rout,
In U-17 action, Usham led the way against Chandigarh with four goals.Laishram (3), N..Priyangka Devi (2) and S. Monika Devi were the other scorers. Monika reduced the margin for Chandigarh off a spot kick.
In another U-17 girls match Uttar Pradesh beat Jharkhand 5-0, all the goals coming from . Kumari (3) and Gudiya (2).
A brace by Akanksha Kandalkar helped the Maharashtra U-21 girls overpower a spirited Bihar 2-1 Neha Kumari reduced the margin for the losers.
In the boys U-17 section, Kerala downed Uttar Pradesh 4-2, Maharashtra outplayed Odisha 4-1 with goals from Sufiyan Faheem Shiekh (3) and Aman Vishal Khanna (1) and in U-21 boys action Punjab overpowered Karnataka 3-2.

Boys U-21: Goa bt Manipur 1-0; Punjab bt Karnataka 3-2.
Boys U-17: Kerala bt Uttar Pradesh 4-2; Maharashtra bt Odisha 4-1
Girls U-21:Manipur bt Jharkhand 12-0; Maharashtra bt Bihar 2-1
