Sunil Chhetri trolls reporter on being asked about ICC Cricket World Cup during King's Cup media interaction
The Blue Tigers kick-off their tournament with a clash against Curacao on 5th June.
Well, well, it's not everyday that we see our national team skipper trolling someone, although it was well-justified from Sunil Chhetri's side!
Speaking to the media at Delhi's JLN Stadium, ahead of the King's Cup, the Bengaluru FC man was taken aback by a reporter's question. We are pretty sure, if it was some other player, the reply would have been something else! But, after all, it was India's most underrated sporting icon and he proved his wits once again!
There have been multiple instances in this country, where we have seen reporters asking cricket-related questions to our national team players (of other sports like hockey and football). Although, these questions are just to generate clickbait content, they are looked down upon from the people who actually want other sports to develop in India too! Why would you even ask questions related to the ICC World Cup, when the media interaction is about an upcoming football tournament!
The reporter asked our national talisman about his favourite World Cup memories (by which she meant, the Cricket World Cup). What do you think was the reply?
With a grin, the Arjuna awardee replied, "I haven't played a World Cup yet. The U-17 World Cup was great, I think. Jeakson (Singh) scored a lovely goal!"

Before this, the reporter in question had also asked, "Sunil, the ICC World Cup is about to begin. India will play South Africa on 5th June. We would like you to wish Virat (Kohli) on camera."
The Padma Shri awardee replied, "Only Virat?" The answer sent every reporter present into a spree of giggles, which was followed by the reporter quipping, "and the team."

The 34-year-old continued, "Hey Virat champ! I hope you are doing very well. I hope the team is doing really well. I have already messaged you, but they want me to say it on TV also. So, all the best and do well! Enjoy and we are already very proud of you."
The barrage of annoying questions didn't stop there. The reporter went on to ask if the skipper will be visiting the United Kingdom for a few matches. To which, the former Mohun Bagan man replied, "The moment the person who is asking me these questions, gives me the tickets, I will definitely go and watch."
Under new tactician Igor Stimac, India face Curacao today (5th June) in the King's Cup. Meanwhile, in the other fixture, Thailand face Vietnam. Winners of both the matches will meet in the finale (7th June), while the losers will face-off in a third-place playoff.
