Barcelona Vs Girona match in Miami officially called off by LaLiga
The fixture has been postponed due to problems with getting a green-light from the Royal Spanish Football Federation.
The LaLiga match between Barcelona and Girona, which was scheduled to take place in the United States of America in 2019, has been called off due to problems in organizing one outside of Spain. This ambitious project was organized by the LaLiga along with parties from the US to help build supporters of the Spanish league in the country and treat to the die-hard fans as well.
However, this had now to be postponed due to problems with getting a green-light from the Royal Spanish Football Federation. In an official statement released earlier today, LaLiga said, “We would like to commend FC Barcelona and Girona FC for their willingness to chart new ground by playing the first LaLiga match outside of Spain. The LaLiga partnership with Relevant is a 15-year agreement and the effort to grow LaLiga in North America goes on as we continue our efforts to play the match.”
“From the beginning, we have said that participation in the game abroad is voluntary and if FC Barcelona does not feel now is the right time to play, the game scheduled in Miami will not be played on the agreed date.” it continued.
This method was taken by LaLiga in partnership with Relevant to help the American sports fanatics get a taste of live LaLiga action. LaLiga further stated how disappointed it is at calling this off, but how it wants to continue the tradition seen by the NBA, MLB and NFL playing games outside of the USA. They said, “We regret disappointing our fans in the US and will work too, in the shortest time possible, play an official LaLiga game in the US, just like the major American leagues (NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL) play games abroad.”

However, the organizers have assured the American fans that they’re trying their utmost best to rally on for making sure a LaLiga game can take place outside of Spain. They added, “LaLiga will continue its court proceeding so an official league game can be played outside of Spain. LaLiga believes strongly that The Real Federación Española de Fútbol (Royal Spanish Football Federation, RFEF) is not acting in accordance with the law.”
[KH_RELATED_NEWS title="Related News"][/KH_RELATED_NEWS]This will come as disappointing news for the several Barcelona fans in Miami, who were hoping to get a glimpse of some of their biggest stars in this grand, revolutionary event next year. However, this game was always under a shadow of a doubt due to much resistance coming from LaLiga fans, especially that of Girona, who complained about it being unfair for their home game being played elsewhere.
While LaLiga gave assurances of sending a certain group of Girona fans to the United States to cheer on for the teams, it doesn’t seem like this was enough to overturn the laws. This will come as a sigh of relief for many LaLiga fans, who were hesitant at it in the first place and wouldn’t want to see the game commercialized for other reasons.
