Yamal has scored only once in this competition.
Spain and France are brimming with potential, but all of the spotlight will be on Kylian Mbappé and Lamine Yamal.
Barcelona striker Lamine Yamal spoke to the press ahead of Spain’s FIFA World Cup 2026 semi-final against France, stating that he is excited about the idea of facing Kylian Mbappé and Co.
Lamine Yamal comments on his current form at World Cup 2026
Much has been made of Yamal’s performance in the tournament since his comeback from injury, but he seems unconcerned about what his critics are saying.
”I don’t feel pressure. You say I’m not at my best, so you shouldn’t expect anything from me. But I’m confident that tomorrow will go well,” he told reporters.
”I’m not worried about goals, but it’s always special to score in games like this. I accept the challenge, that’s why I came.”
Lamine Yamal turned 19 on Monday, yet he is already the finest young forward in the world.
After a breakout 2023-24 season with Barcelona, he was named to Spain’s Euro 2024 squad, where he starred in his first major tournament and motivated his side to victory, much as Mbappé did in World Cup 2018.

He finished second in the Ballon d’Or last year at the age of 18, but a hamstring injury in April hampered his World Cup preparations. With only one goal in five starts, he has not shone like Mbappé, Messi, or Jude Bellingham.
Mbappé has clearly outdone Lamine Yamal in front of goal this summer. Lamine Yamal has been significantly more effective with his dribbling, completing twice as many as the French attacker. He also competed harder for his squad defensively.
How many goals has Lamine Yamal this World Cup?
So far, he has one goal.
Will Yamal play tonight?
Yes, he will play tonight.
