Lamine Yamal’s incredible record vs Kylian Mbappe in single elimination matches ahead of World Cup semi-final clash

The FIFA World Cup 2026 clash between France and Spain will mark the 6th meeting between Kylian Mbappé and Lamine Yamal.
The stage is set for the long-awaited France vs Spain clash in the FIFA World Cup 2026. While Les Bleus have won all of their games in regular time while scoring 16 goals, La Roja have conceded only one goal in the summer competition so far.
Didier Deschamps’ side has one of the scariest attacks in the ongoing campaign; however, Luis de la Fuente’s men have proved their strong tactical understanding to reach the last four. While the game is set to be a clash between the top stars of football, there is a record that France captain Kylian Mbappe would want to break.
Lamine Yamal has never lost to Kylian Mbappé in single-elimination matches, either for Barcelona or for Spain

Spanish forward Lamine Yamal has never lost to France captain Kylian Mbappe in single-elimination matches. The two have clashed on five occasions, including both club and country games in the last two years.
Yamal made his professional debut for La Roja in September 2023 during a UEFA European Championship qualifier against Georgia. Soon, Spain took on France in the semifinals of the 2024 Euros. Yamal and Dani Olmo scored in the game to cancel Randal Kolo Muani’s goal and win the game 2-1.
Later in 2025, Barcelona and Real Madrid faced each other in the final of the Spanish Super Cup, with La Blaugrana emerging victorious. The Catalan club scored five goals against the Santiago Bernabeu outfit in the initial 50 minutes and won the game 5-2.
In the same year, they once again locked horns in the Copa del Rey final, which the Catalan club won. Interestingly, Pedri, Ferran Torres, and Jules Kounde scored for Barcelona, while Kylian Mbappe and Aurelien Tchouameni scored for Real Madrid. The players are a part of the upcoming semifinal clash.

Last year, Luis de la Fuente’s men faced the two-time world champions in the semifinals of the UEFA Nations League. Yamal scored twice, while Mikel Merino, Nico Williams, and Pedri also found the back of the net. However, in reply, Les Bleus managed only four goals, including one by Mbappe, and eventually lost the game 5-4.
Earlier this year, Barcelona defeated Real Madrid in the final of the Spanish Super Cup for the second time. Courtesy of a goal and a brace from Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha, Hansi Flick’s side secured a thrilling 3-2 triumph over Los Blancos.
Despite scoring on several occasions, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has failed to guide their side to triumph when Lamine Yamal has been on the other end.
