Spain and France will face each other in the semi-final of the World Cup.

One of the most talked-about stars of this year’s World Cup has been Spain’s 18-year-old phenom, Lamine Yamal. He helped his team win 2-1 over Belgium on Friday to advance to the semifinals.

Spain will now confront its most difficult test yet against France, a familiar opponent. Lamine Yamal has never lost a single elimination match against Kylian Mbappé. He has won the Euro semi-finals (2024), Supercopa Final (2025), Copa del Rey Final (2025), Nations League Semis (2025), and Supercopa Final (2026) against him at national and club level.

Following the quarterfinal win vs Belgium, Lamine Yamal was in a buoyant mood, telling France that if it should fear anybody, it should be Spain.

I think that if France has to fear anyone, it’s us,” Yamal said.

“As we’re the ones who have knocked them out before.”

Yamal stated his firm belief that there are only two potential outcomes on Tuesday: Spain will win its third straight match against France, or France will progress to its third consecutive World Cup final.

“There are two options. Either France gets to three World Cup finals in a row, or we beat them three times in a row.”
