Football won - Legends react as Spain defeat Argentina to win FIFA World Cup 2026

Spain are now two-time FIFA World Cup champions.
Spain have won the FIFA World Cup 2026 after beating three-time champions Argentina 1-0 in the final at the New York New Jersey Stadium on Sunday, July 19. La Roja played a tactical masterpiece. They did not let the Argentina side have a single shot on target throughout 120 minutes of the match.
Ferran Torres scored the only goal of the game, courtesy of an assist from Atletico Bilbao youngster Nico Williams. Spain also had two of their goals disallowed. Meanwhile, La Roja’s defence kept Lionel Messi silenced for the whole game.
Lamine Yamal (19) has become the youngest player to win the European Championship and the FIFA World Cup. Unai Simón scripted history by keeping the most clean sheets in a single FIFA World Cup, seven. Spain captain Rodri won the Golden Ball, while Barcelona defender Pau Cubarsi was named the Young Player of the Tournament.
With the triumph, Spain have joined the exclusive list of nations that have won the global competition twice or more. La Roja are also currently on a 38-match unbeaten streak, the longest in international football.
Many Spanish football legends were present in New York to witness the final. They later took to social media to laud the triumphant side.

Football legends congratulate Spain for winning the FIFA World Cup
David Villa took to Instagram and uploaded a picture with Ferran Torres, which read:
“I was convinced this was going to be you!!! Congratulations champions and thank you very much!!! You deserve it!!!”
Meanwhile, Carles Puyol and Iker Casillas also posted on social media to congratulate the Spanish team on winning the World Cup.
Joan Capdevila reacted by posting two stars. Former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea also shared his comment on social media after La Roja’s win.
Former World Cup winner Toni Kroos made the ‘football won’ claim.
