Lewis Hall reveals why he rejected Man United's interest to sign new Newcastle deal

Hall was linked with a transfer to Old Trafford.

Full-back Lewis Hall of Newcastle United and England said he didn’t want to join Manchester United. It has to do with what new Newcastle manager Matthias Jaissle told him about the team’s goals.

United were very interested in Lewis Hall, 22, when they were looking for a left-back in the summer. But they didn’t make any move because Newcastle made it clear they didn’t want to lose him.

“No, honestly, it didn’t (affect me),” he said of interest in his services. “I guess whenever you’re linked to another team, you know that you’re doing something right. I guess it’s just a credit to your own performances and how you are as a player, how you are as a person.”

“I took that as a positive, but at the same time, I knew how much I love playing here and I knew that since the manager came in, I knew the ambitions and what we wanted to achieve.”

“After not many conversations, not many training sessions, I knew that the manager (Matthias Jaissle) was going to be really good for this club and I knew that as a team, bringing in new players and improving the squad was really important and as soon as we did that, it was a no-brainer really to sign.”

Lewis Hall also wanted to remain on Tyneside. He has explained why he plans to stay at the club for many more years.

Lewis Hall just signed a new contract with Newcastle. He was also called back up to the England team after missing out on the FIFA World Cup 2026.

While Newcastle’s season has had a rough start, Hall scored in their 2-1 win over Hull City over the weekend. It helped move them to ninth place in the Premier League table.
