It was the final group stage matchday in the LG Independence Cup on Wednesday.

Reigning champions Chhinga Veng FC continued their winning run in the campaign with a 1-0 victory over MPL newcomers Chawnpui FC.

MS Dawngliana continued his red-hot form for Chhinga Veng FC as his second-half strike ensured victory for his team which sees them top their group with four wins in four games.

Although they were made to wait for their goal, Chhinga Veng FC looked comfortable against their opponents and they could have had more had it not been for some wayward finishing and misfortune in front of goal.

They will now face neighbours Electric Veng FC in an Aizawl East Derby in the semi-finals on Saturday evening.

Chawnpui FC had hopes of qualifying for the semi-finals coming into the match, but their result now ensures them as third in their group with Mizoram Police FC in second as a result of a better head to head record.

Jamshedpur FC had taken an early lead through MD. Firoz Khan but they could not hold onto their slender advantage as Mizoram Police FC equalised in the second half from an own goal by Vijay Kumar.

Mizoram Police FC will now face Aizawl FC in the first semi-final on Friday evening while Jamshedpur FC will journey home after collecting two points from four games.
