Messi equalled Didi’s all-time World Cup assists record.
Another day, another chance for Lionel Messi to break a long-standing record. After a wonderful display in Argentina’s 2028 World Cup campaign, the number 10 is currently the all-time top scorer in the expanded 48-team tournament in North America. On top of this, he also became the joint all-time highest assist provider.
Appearing in a record six World Cup editions, Messi has amassed 10 assists in 32 matches in the tournament. This puts him above the record Pele, Diego Maradona, and Germany’s Uwe Seeler, all of whom have eight World Cup assists.
