The defending Copa America champions have two friendlies coming up
The 2022 FIFA World Cup winners Argentina will surely be a mouthful to watch in this year’s Copa America. Yes, the CONMEBOL Copa América is around the corner. The 2024 edition is set to kickstart on June 20. The Argentina national football team who won the 2021 edition will open the tournament against the Canada national football team from Group A.
The defending champions are grouped with Peru, Canada and Chile in Group A. In total, there are four groups comprising four nations each. That means a total of 16 teams will fight for the trophy. Another interesting aspect of this edition will be the squad size. Recently, the governing body CONMEBOL decided to expand the allowed squad depth to 26 instead of 23 players on the roster.
This is the 48th edition of the tournament which is set to take place in the USA. This is only the second time in history that the United States of America are set to host the oldest national football tournament ever. Actually, this is a strategic partnership that also allowed six teams from CONCACAF to be present in the tournament. Those six are – the United States, Mexico, Jamaica, Panama, Canada and Costa Rica.
Although the squad for the title defence is yet to be announced, we sure know this just could be the final Copa America where Lionel Messi features. Messi along with his chosen teammates will be looking to defend their title under the coaching leadership of Lionel Scaloni.

Argentina’s recent form
The Argentina team may have won the World Cup back in December 2022 but they never really took the pedal off the gas. Post that, they played 12 games, winning each one. Before the Copa America tournament begins, the Argentine Football Association have lined up two friendlies this month. This will surely help the linkup and go roughly over some of the tactics for the upcoming tournament.
Firstly they will take on the Ecuador national football team on June 10 at the Soldier Field in Chicago. Later after a few days of rest and preparation, at the FedExField in Maryland, United States, on June 14, Argentina will be in action in another friendly. This time they will show up against the Guatemala national football team.
