The Gunners edged the Reds tonight.
Liverpool took on Arsenal in a crucial Matchday 9 fixture of the English Premier League 2026-27 at Anfield on Sunday, November 1, 2026. An early goal from Kai Havertz secured a 1-0 win for the Gunners.
Kai Havertz broke the deadlock for Arsenal in the 16th minute, capitalising on a defensive error from the Reds. The hosts fought back after going down, with Alexis Mac Allister coming close and Florian Wirtz hitting the bar.
Still, the Gunners went into the break with a one-goal advantage. The second half was equally competitive, with both sides crafting chance after chance. However, the visitors held off pressure from Liverpool to secure all three points.
Six things we learned from Liverpool vs Arsenal match:
Catch Every Update, Anytime, Anywhere
1. Liverpool’s defence falters
Liverpool entered the fixture with four clean sheets in the league since September, which is the most among any Premier League side during that period. However, that defensive solidity took just 15 minutes to crumble under minimal pressure.
A horrible pass by Alisson fell short and was easily intercepted by Martin Odegaard. The ball made its way to Declan Rice, who set up Kai Havertz’s opener. A horrible moment for the Reds’ goalkeeper, and a testament to Arsenal’s relentless pressing.
2. No Saka, no problem

When news emerged that Bukayo Saka might not be back before the international break due to a quadriceps injury, most Gunners fans were distraught. However, Noni Madueke has more than deputised on the right flank, and his outing tonight will present a real headache for Mikel Arteta when Saka returns.
Madueke was one of Arsenal’s brightest attackers in the opening stages, running up and down the right flank and creating a big chance. He also chipped in defensively, combining well with Jurrien Timber.

3. Penalty overlooked for Isak?
There were numerous penalty appeals from Liverpool in the first half, with the likes of Cody Gakpo and Alexis Mac Allister going down in the box. While those calls were quickly – and fairly – waved away, one denied penalty raised eyebrows.
A brilliant cross was played into the Arsenal area, and Isak jumped the highest. However, the striker’s jersey was clearly held back by Timber. Credit to Isak for not going down, but the incident was not noticed by the referee. More inexplicably, the incident was not reviewed by VAR.
4. Nyoni’s solid debut
Andoni Iraola took a big call in handing 19-year-old Trey Nyoni his first Premier League start, and Trey Nyoni put in a solid if unspectacular performance against the Gunners. The youngster had the most touches (60) during his time on the pitch, circulating possession and allowing the likes of Mac Allister and Wirtz to push forward. He was eventually replaced before the hour mark by Dominik Szoboszlai.
5. Isak draws a blank

Coming into this fixture, Alexander Isak had scored six goals in his last six league matches, which was two-thirds of his team’s goal output. The Swede has been a player reborn under Iraola, but he had no such luck against the Gunners.
He had two shots, both of which were off target. He also had just three touches in the opposition’s penalty area. His threat was effectively neutralised by a brilliant Ezri Konsa, who stayed close to him throughout the match.
6. Gunners end Anfield voodoo
Tonight’s victory marked the first win for Arsenal in their last 14 matches at Anfield. The Liverpool home ground was one venue where Mikel Arteta had failed to clinch a win, and that unfortunate streak has come to an end tonight.
This result also marked Liverpool’s first home defeat to the reigning Premier League champions since December 2007. The Gunners also became the first team ever to prevent Liverpool from having a single shot on target at Anfield. A historic result through and through.
