Brazil midfielder Lucas Paqueta had a muscle strain in the back of his left thigh during their 2-1 World Cup round of 32 win against Japan on Monday, according to the Brazilian FA (CBF).
Brazil have been dealt an injury setback. It might sideline the player for the remainder of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The South American side have advanced to the last 16 and are four victories away from winning the trophy.
They’ll probably have to play the majority of the competition without midfielder Lucas Paqueta. The former West Ham star sustained a muscular injury during Monday’s 2-1 victory against Japan.
Brazil confirm Lucas Paquetá’s injury

Lucas Paqueta, 28, experienced pain in the back of his left leg. He was forced to leave at halftime and was replaced by Endrick.
The Brazilian FA said in a statement: “Paqueta underwent scans on Tuesday that to the back of his left thigh.
“The player will undergo an intensive treatment programme under the supervision of the national team’s medical staff, with the aim of recovering and returning to action as soon as possible.”
No timeframe was provided for Paqueta’s comeback. ESPN Brazil also stated that he was “practically out” of the rest of the World Cup.
Brazil will meet Norway in the round of 16 on Sunday in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The World Cup final will take place at the same stadium on July 19.
Lucas Paquetá missed Tuesday’s training session, which was intended to prepare for the Round of 16 encounter, due to his ailment. He joins Raphinha, who is also sidelined due to an injury.
